It's not actually too hot in the office, I just meant it was too nice out there to be sitting inside.
Generally, the costings include demolition plus relocation of some affected by the proposal, such as the car park and ambulance station.
Had a bit of a chuckle when Look North was reporting this proposal and showing the plot of land where it may, or may not, be built. The building facing Castle St could be seen in the background and it still has scaffolding around it as it has for at least a couple of years, what are they doing with that building for goodness sake?
The Earl De Grey and the Castle Buildings are both listed buildings and both were supposed to be redeveloped, but they're not now, the Highways Agency are demolishing them as part of the Castle Street development. Another two bite the dust.
Sadly an all to common occurrence in Hull OLM and here's me thinking listed buildings were sacrosanct having dealt with the listed building guardians in the past.
Listed buildings are subject to more control, but it doesn't prohibit redevelopment under certain conditions and requirements. The buildings are going more as part of the wider Myton St /Quay West development than the Highways England scheme, which to some degree has been waiting to see where the A63's liable to end up.
From the Highways Agency(now Highway's England) report on the A63 development... Demolition & Land Use Two Grade II listed buildings (Earl de Grey and Castle Buildings) will be demolished to enable the scheme to be constructed. The north wall of the Humber dock will need to be removed or replaced. Community Land within Trinity Burial Ground will be lost.
Yep, there were quite a few suggestions that were each scheme dependent. Some included the demolition, others didn't. Over-riding those was the pre-existing West Quay's scheme.
All the plans seem very fuzzy to me, the hotel is shown as being on the Earl de Grey/Castle Buildings site, so wouldn't seem to be directly involved in the Highway's Agency works and the plans show a large extension to Prinny Quay, which is obviously not going to happen, they can't let half the units they've got already. The hotel is easy enough to sort, they just need a hotel operator to agree terms, but I wonder if the rest of it is a bit pie in the sky.
i WONDER iF THIS CURREN I wonder If these two will flagrantly Ignite the Imagination of Hull's resident Arsonist.
They seem fuzzy because they're options more than they're absolute plans. The HDM tend to print a version, when things are not that clear cut and the social media sites seem to limit themselves to face value and idle specualtion. Land not directly affected, can still be indirectly affected by the works for a variety of reasons. Some of the main investors are already on board for the west Quays development.
Anyone been to the New York style kerb dining stuff outside St Stephen yet? please log in to view this image
Is that out the front, where Pie was? If so I have used Pie there which was consistent as ever I've used the middle van in your photo, but not there. It's the Kerbedge van, often found down Humber St. Also they do the burgers in Polar Bear before City matches...very, very good IMO ( surely I'll get an extra stamp on my loyalty card from them for this ringing endorsement?)
