I'm a bit traditional. Whilst I don't dislike the Purple & Lime I'd prefer us to play in either all white, or white shirts with black shorts and socks away from home like we used to in the old First Division and before that.
I can see where you're coming from, that's how I remember away kits, but no doubt younger fans see black and this purple and lime as traditional. It now it seems to make money which all clubs need to do they seem to be creating new variations. Can't see that many variations they can do with white now to distinguish a reason for people to spend out.
I personally think that away kits offer the opportunity to be fun and creative, without being too disruptive to a clubs history. The purple and green is a bit of a novelty, but it makes me smile a bit. On a thread quite a while back I suggested 'recreating' classic shirts - how fun would it be to see City line up in a strip that was a tribute to the 1970 Brazil side? Unfortunately, that's where the similarities would likely end!
Would prefer a lime green trim on the collar and sleeves of the shirt (sorry if that's a bit "luvvie"!)
It got popular especially after we seemed to pick up results well in it- I hope though that its only used when we play a team in Red. It also works of course if we play a team in Red and White. It really annoys me when teams wear their away kit regardless of if it colour clashes or not. Sometimes, its more of a colour clash than if they had stuck to their Home kit. A bit of an old traditionalist maybe, but I like to see teams play in their colours. Often its us playing a team in yellow. Could be anyone-
I really like the purple & lime, different to everyone else and like NickH says, puts a smile on my face!! Mind you, if next season we start getting hammered every away game the smile will soon disappear!!
When I used to run football clubs in Andover I welcomed the arrival of the kit catalogues so I could choose our new season uniform. I don't dislike the new bolder colours but I would never have allowed any of my squads to visit some of the local villages dressed like that because they probably would never have returned.
That bugs me too. When City play teams like Sheffield Wednesday or Blackburn at home and the opposition turn up to play in all yellow (or something quite unlike their proper kit, which doesn't clash with ours) then the whole thing loses some meaning. As you say, we could be playing anyone.
I liked the black kit myself. I still have an original blackthorn purple and lime top from the 1990s.
We should stick with it permanently and make it our own. Who wants to be boring and blend in with so many other teams. Make our own identity and stick with it.
great ideal, make another lot of bloody expensive replica shirts redundant, kerching and thank you. labeled with love?, my arse.
Just found out recently actually that the new home kit isn't a million miles away from this... please log in to view this image
