Toots Thielemans, harmonica-player, RIP. We all know his work, but don't know who it's by... http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/h...ans-known-sesame-street-theme-dies-94-n636261
Malcolm Tomlinson - musician (drummer, percussionist) & songwriter. This is late news as I only just heard about it. A good friend & football team mate for many years over here in Canada. Hadn't seen him for a couple of years. I was told that he played session drums on one or two early Elton John numbers way back when. Good lad, too young to die. Rest in peace Malky. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Tomlinson http://thestrangebrew.co.uk/articles/malcolm-tomlinson-obituary/ Rock was his main genre, but such a well respected sessions drummer, he dabbled in all sorts of forms - for a while he was with Syrinx...I don't think he played percussion on this track by them, but joined them soon after: Unusual music style - this was the back-drop to a ballet piece my ex-missus (ballerina) took me to
One of my favourite clips, just part of a longer bit of brilliance from Sir Humphrey. Writing and acting of the highest standard.
My brother-in-law, Geoff, almost inevitably cancer, the bastard. He was about eight years older than me, one of my abiding memories of him, when I was about 10, was sitting on his Lambretta, a GP200 I think, pretending I was riding it when he used to park it up outside our house when he used to visit my sister. RIP Geoff, you were my sisters whole world
Just been told a lad I served with in the daft and barmy was killed on Monday in Iraq. He was blown up attempting to defuse an ISIS planted IED, he was a civilian contractor. He leaves a wife and two kids, he'd have been 43. Dangerous work which takes a touch of madness and balls of steel. A proper man. RIP Stu.
Worked with a few EOD guys in the past. Completely mental, as you'd expect, given what they do. Also, one of a few who can justifiably be called heroes. RIP to him.
So weird. Only a couple of nights ago I was semi-asleep and was thinking of the films he and Richard Pryor starred in together and how old Wilder must be now. Rest in peace, Gene.
