the mag are reporting that we are in for this chaps..... Here is the info... Newcastle are looking to buy Ross McCormack in the summer transfer window according to reports today. The Scottish striker is said to have a £12m release clause in his contract and the Mail say that as well as Newcastle, both Norwich and Aston Villa see the Fulham striker as the man to score the goals to get instant promotion back to the Premier League. Newcastle were interested in Ross McCormack two years ago and at the time Leeds claimed that the Magpies actually made a bid for the forward but wouldn’t match the £11m that Fulham then paid in summer 2014. The Leeds owner Massimo Cellino said at the time he would rather have sold to Newcastle than to a Championship rival but the money was too good to turn down. In August 2014 Ross McCormack turned 28 and little surprise Mike Ashley refused to pay the asking price, instead totally wasting £6m on Emmanuel Riviere who has scored one league goal in two years at Newcastle. Whether McCormack would/could have done it in the Premier League is an unknown but he certainly has shown he can score in the Championship. In total scoring 66 goals in 134 Championship starts over the course of the last three seasons. The last two of those seasons playing for Fulham who have been fighting relegation both years, making the striker’s goal tally all the more impressive. With everybody still waiting for Rafa Benitez to be hopefully confirmed, we are naturally still totally in the dark as to which players he sees as doing a job in the Championship, particularly with none of Mitrovic, Perez or Cisse reaching double figures this season. When it comes to Championship scorers, these are the seven who scored the most goals this past 2015/16 season. Gray and Rhodes are now in the Premier League and Hernandez could join them if Hull win the play-off final against Sheffield Wednesday. Ross McCormack certainly stands out as the most reliable option with form in that division, so little wonder he will be in demand despite turning 30 in the coming August. An added bonus is that the Fulham striker also got 9 assists as well as his 21 goals this past season. Top goalscorers in the Championship 2015/16 (number of goals and then total of assists in brackets): 25 (9) Andre Gray (Burnley) 21 (9)Ross McCormack (Fulham) 21 (2) Abel Hernandez (Hull) 19 (3) Jonathan Kodjia (Bristol City) 17 (6) Tomer Hemed (Brighton) 17 (4) Nahki Wells (Huddersfield) 16 (2) Jordan Rhodes (Middlesbrough/Blackburn)
I think this ship has sailed. We need to be creative, maybe look at some reserves at the full squads; Nick Powell (ManU), Enes Unal (ManC), Solanke (Chelsea), Akpom (Arsenal). I'm sure Rafa will have his ideas, though can't see McCormack being one of them.
What about trying to raid the Scottish Premiership? Similar(ish) level to the Championship, and no direct rivalry for promotion. Adam Rooney has been one of the top scorers for the last two seasons. Leigh Griffiths unlikely to leave Celtic, but could be worth a bid if he thinks we'll go straight back up. Kane Hemmings younger and was nowhere in the 2014-2015 season but has had a good 2015-16.
I just think we need to get proven goalscorers in. Imagine: Ings (on loan) McCormack Campbell Mitro There would be sit loads of goals there.
Ings isn't going anywhere... and especially not on loan to championship club. You can have Balotelli for a fiver though
Not yet sure if Rafa is ours to trade but you can't have him as I'm worried Mr Rock and Roll will eat his face. We have got an amazing striker called Riviere. Take him, just ****ing take him, please. Plenty of meat on him, get some protein into Coutinho. ps. Even Haidara is better than Moreno.
We have a young striker called Josh Maja, he's one of our next young stars who are starting to shine, that will be looking for a Championship club this coming season. I feel it would be beneficial for both clubs as he'd fire you back to the Premiership, and we'd have got one of our young stars, a full season under his belt at a promoted club and he'd probably be ready to enter our first team squad, the following season. Win - Win?
You've never seen him play clearly. Far too good for championship and has been for years, doesn't just score you goals, he creates, has a great touch and a decent range of passing. We used him in attacking midfield and on the wing as well and he still scored goals. Bit of a money grabber though
Yes I have. He's decent, just not worth £12m in my opinion. If he'd proven he could do it in the Premier League then yes. But he hasn't.
I think you'll find that fees in the championship are starting to get ridiculous as well and for a striker almost nailed on to get over 20 goals a season and 10 assists a season thats actually kinda a reasonable price compared to some of the other transfers going around these past few seasons.
If we went for this lad we'd be buying those 20 goals. There aren't a lot of players out there who would be willing to come.. and score that many. When we spunked £15m on Thauvin I think £12m is about the right price for what he will offer. Remember too.. he's British so doesn't have the heart of the pea. I'd put him ahead of Cisse and Riviere for a start.
