Rumours are now gathering pace to the possible signing of Charlie Austin, with K.Billy from saintsweb dropping hints and one bookie has us as 4/7 favs to sign....
Can't see it coming off personally....wages too high and injury prone Apart from that I would love him to join us after a great initial season in the PL Won't be putting any money on this one
With Sturridge, Welbeck and Carroll's injuries, if Austin were to move to the PL this month there would still be a chance for him to force his way into Roy's squad. Right now I'm guessing it's Rooney, Kane, Vardy and one other. And no-one is really putting their hands up. Ings, WIlson and Jay are also injured, Berahino and Lambert aren't getting too much football, Defoe's time has probably come and gone. Deeney maybe? Afobe if he hits the ground running with Bmouth? Surely Austin will be in with a shout if he can get back into the PL and score some goals. And if that is for us, then brilliant.
Is he really injury prone? He played 34 matches in season 13/14, 35 matches in 14/15, and so far 14 matches this season. Hardly the stats of someone injury prone. Don't know from where does he get that reputation.
If he does sign (assuming he didn't lower his demands significantly) it'd suggest that something has changed behind the scenes, given that Koeman explicitly ruled him out as too expensive less than a month ago. Would be a good omen.
Maybe he could be a reformed character. His assault conviction was some time ago and I've not heard much since. I presume nobody matched his valuation in the summer but he has knuckled down at QPR. Yes he's had injuries but had a good season in the PL. Surely we can manage him appropriately.
Not really injury prone Lamby, and now he's married he has calmed down a lot...grown up a little bit.
Possible, but even on what Gaston was making, five months and change of wages is Cuco Martina money, if that.
I've previously been unsure and never quite known why. One thing for sure though, is that he is a natural finisher. He knows where the onion bag is and that is where you are meant to put the onions! Back in league one he impressed me. He seems to have a good touch and good work rate.
Talking of Austin's, my uncle once had an Austin Maestro - it wasn't very reliable. Charlie Austin on the other hand, with the amount of chances we create, could be just what we need.
