Found out from a colleague that is friends with Shane Longs wife that Saints players get paid 5k for each goal they score. Seems strange to me to get a bonus for doing something that you would be expected to do in your job anyway. Maybe we should start taking 5k off their weekly salary for every game they fail to score in
I shall be there, hoping that the game doesn't go to plan. That is, we play great football and create numerous chances, none of which are taken. Sunderland are embarrassing but get a lucky ricochet to Defoe in the 89 th minute and score. Negative I know but that's how things are going at the moment.
Shane Long may get £5k but every player has different terms. The also get bonuses for winning which increases if the winning margin increases- e.g. a 3-0 win will be more money than a 2-0 win (although at the moment anyone would just settle for a win!)
Goal bonuses is a long established bonus practice, all through football. 20 years ago I used to get goal bonuses in the southern league. Thankfully Shane agrees with the company policy on prudent spending.
As said, goal bonuses are normal, but 5K not likely to make much of a difference to highly paid players....especially at the number of goals our lads are scoring.
Looks like it will just be us two then, maybe we can get a "I'm the upper/I'm the lower" etc chant going.
He'll always be first up on the dart board and the pool table, but may have to buy the first round when we win. Or lose. Or draw.
He also is the one that players can go to if they are not happy and don't want to go the manager or Les. They can be the one who assists new players and help them settle in. The manager can use the Club Captain to softly get messages to a player or ask him to keep an eye on a player over a particular topic. For example, he could be putting an arm around Pierre and keep encouraging him to shoot and to keep working in his finishing. He can be someone who is used as the media front man. Davis' character is perfect for so many of these roles. He is not the blood and thunder leader in the pitch, more the sensible, wily older brother off the pitch.
Basically a Team Captain is there to lead, and the first thing is to lead by example, Steve will do that for sure and all.

For anyone who sits in Kingsland North... Going to buy tickets for Arsenal tomorrow. As it's the FA Cup so Arsenal get the extra block ( ) I was wondering how far round does the standing usually go for that area. I'm going with the old man who won't be able to stand all game so don't want to have that issue. Will I be okay in block 35? Anyone here have ST's in that area and can remember from previous cup games? Thinking row P to Z sort of area.
I sit in row AA Block 35. I'm not going so there are three seats in a row there, unless already sold. There is only standing if there is a goal, a very contentious decision, 5 minutes before half time to let people out for a beer and 2 minutes before the end of the game. Should be fine for your Dad.
Cheers mate Was more wondering because we lose a block to the away fans the singers basically move round a bit more. Thinking I should be fine if not too far back.
