We have options, catts has started the season pretty badly, he normally takes a few games to get into it. However does his form warrant a place in the team? Would the team collapse without him?

Yes, he's been ****e this season. Assuming no new players (god forbid!), next game I'd play:

    ------------------Pants----------------
    Jones------JOS-----Kab-------PVA
    -------------Seb------M'Vila----------
    -------------------Toiv------------------
    Watmore------Defoe----------Lens

Not gonna happen, of course, but it's what I'd like to see.

You know, I don't think he should be dropped, I think he should be permanently replaced.

Now, I've always been a Catts fan, liked the passion in the shirt and the way he's driven players on, but I ain't seeing that now, and I worry about him being part of the old guard, the supposed 'rotten core'

More than that though, I see a player in Yann M'Vila who has all of Catts bite, all of his aggression and will to win, but also has incredible composure on the ball, anticipation and an eye for a pass.

We don't need both in the side, too defensive, and Yann is light years ahead as a footballer.

I'd go with Taricco's team above but with Rodwell in for Seb, as i think Rodwell could thrive and get his confidence back alongside such a calming and composed player as M'Vila.

Despite us being poor as a whole today and largely second best, M'Vila, Toivenen & Lens give me great confidence, as did Kaboul who looked a lot better and will improve further. I don't see Catts ever improving as a footballer, and I question if we need his heart soi much with that mad Frenchman in there.

Really like this team....one thought I have. Would love to see how Rodwell works out in defence. My thought down the road would put him in at center at the back but how about trying him at right back instead of Jones?

He's not been the same player since he signed his contract extension in the summer. Love him normally but has let himself and his teammates down this season. Give him some time on the bench and see if he can sort his head out.

I'm a massive Catts fan but he's been woeful this season.

We need to look at it and think is Lee Cattermole going to take us to the next level? I.e. Mid table 9-13?
Answer: no probably not, not as a first team player anyway.

Is Lee Cattermole going to help in a relegation dogfight? Yes, we already know he will.

Where are we right now? The latter.

What should we do now? IMO drop him for Rodwell who might well thrive alongside M'Vila.

I just think he needs some belief mate, and he'll get that from playing.

Midweek, against lower league oppo, he was better, and that makes me think it's because he thought he was better than them. We want him to think like that in the league, cos the lad is talented, we know that, we just haven't seen it.

Yes I have to agree, Rodwell into the defence seems a no brainer

I was watching Cattermole closely today and the other players just don't seem to like him.

They rarely speak to him, on the pitch, although they might have had something to say at half time.

We're not in a relegation dogfight, we're only a few games in FFS.

Either that or he just found his level. I had high hopes when we signed him but I've just seen nothing from the lad to justify his price tag. I can't recall a premier league game where he's been anything but anonymous, honestly. Seb was our player of the season last year, and I also he think he adds better cover for the defence than our other options, which we will need vs. Spurs

Okay. We're bottom of the league after 4 games where we've taken 2 points, and on paper we wanted more.

I might well be coming across negative but we'll be down there. I don't believe we've got enough defensively to get 10-14. So 15 down is battling relegation is it not?

Quote it and keep it till the end of the season. Then come back to me. FFS.

There was his talk of cliques and divisions as well, maybe he's been pushed out and maybe that explains his poor form.

What it doesn't change is that, ability wise, M'Vila is on another planet.

You are being very negative yes. By your logic Southampton are also battling relegation and Leicester are waltzing into the champions league.

I won't be quoting anything. If we do end up getting relegated the last thing I'll want to do is return here and stroke your ego for being right.

The team certainly won't collapse without him. quite the reverse. to be so far off the pace is a joke, and he needs to give his head and game a massive shake.

interesting to hear other players not communicating with him / getting on with him on the pitch. i'd have no time for someone barking orders if they can't do their own job properly.

So what do you expect us to achieve this season out of interest? Do you honestly believe we've got enough to be far away from the bottom 3?

The next 2 days might change that if we get 2/3 very good signings.

At present, we're conceding too many goals to be comfortably mid table.

As for my ego, don't worry about it, it's fine.
