Christ they must be ****ing desperate to have that **** tip on the list.... Most the fukas come to the toon for a night out and a bit of culture.
I'm actually staying on the outskirts of Sunderland at the moment and I can tell you it's better than it was the last time I was here: in 1976! Then again, most of the North East has been improved since then.
Sunderland is a dump. It's a disgrace the lack of investment really. Even lads and lasses I know from Sunderland say it's a dump. A lass who works for us moved to Seaham just to get away from the place - proud of her roots but doesn't wanna live in a run down 'city'. This City of Culture thing has really lost its way. It's getting desperate now.
I was just looking up the 'city of culture' winners and hadn't realised that this is just a UK thing. This has nowt to do with the European Capital of Culture that we applied for. It seems to be a sympathy vote and designed to inject a bit of culture to a crap place rather than it actually be a awarded to a city for the culture that is already there. On that basis, Sunderland stand a very good chance of winning.
On a serious note, it wouldn't be a bad thing for the area if they did win it. Could attract a lot of visitors to the area which will be good business for the Newcastle Hotels and B&B's as no ****er will actually want to stay in Sunderland.
I feel compelled to apologise. Since I moved to Sunderland, they have mistaken my cultured, grown-up outlook, for the Town owning that cultured, grown-up outlook as it is displayed by at least one resident... Hence the bid. It's all a bit embarrassing really. It's not in the papers yet, but they have also bid for the title of "best hung Town on earth"
