Swansea v Stoke Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 10 April 2024 Kick off - 8pm Following another woeful performance in the 0-2 loss away at Boro, next up for Luke Williams’ stuttering Swansea squad is a 6-pointer against fellow bottom half strugglers Stoke City. Last Saturday, Emmanuel Latte Lath scored twice as Middlesbrough kept their promotion hopes alive with a 2-0 win over a lacklustre Swansea. The striker proved the pivotal figure as he scored in each half to maintain Boro's recent revival. The hosts went in front in first-half stoppage time as Latte Lath fired through a crowd. An excellent curling effort on 79 minutes sealed the win that keeps Boro six points off a play-off spot. The Swans, who are getting closer to the relegation places, are five points clear of the drop zone in 15th spot in the Championship, with Middlesbrough rising to eighth. At the same time as the Swans were losing to Boro, Stoke were coming from two goals down to salvage a point against promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion and boost their Championship survival hopes. The fifth-placed Baggies looked on course for a 20th league win of the season as goals from Mikey Johnston and Jed Wallace in either half put them in control. But Million Manhoef gave Stoke hope with a slick finish midway through the second half before Andre Vidigal netted from the rebound after having a penalty saved to earn the hosts a draw. West Brom now hold a six-point advantage over Coventry City who are seventh. Stoke are 18th in the table, four points above the drop zone, and only one point below the Swans. The Swans have played the Potters on 81 previous occasions, winning 25, losing 33 and drawing 23. In the corresponding fixture last season, Stoke ran out comfortable 3-1 winners: Turning to tomorrow evening, hopefully the Swans players and staff will realise the importance of securing at least a point. However, I have an awful feeling that Stoke will repeat last season’s 1-3 win. Hope I’m wrong
I’m told that it’s not a happy camp at present. Williams was incandescent after the Boro match - the interview that was reported on was the second attempt: the first one was ‘unpublishable’ - due to what he said and the ‘industrial’ language. Mass clear out this Summer ….
Millwall the big winners from last night. A win tonight would be massive, it'll be really interesting to see how the players react.
Swansea City show three changes for this evening’s Championship clash with Stoke City as Ben Cabango, Ollie Cooper and Liam Cullen all start against the Potters. The trio come in for Nathan Wood, Jamal Lowe and Jerry Yates respectively. Wood misses out through injury while Lowe and Yates drop to the bench. Josh Tymon is fit enough to start for the Swans after being forced off in the weekend defeat to Middlesbrough. Carl Rushworth is in goal for the hosts, with Cabango joining Harry Darling, Josh Key and Tymon in defence. Jay Fulton and captain Matt Grimes continue together in midfield, with Ronald, Cooper and Jamie Paterson operating ahead of them. Cullen leads the line for the Swans. Swansea City: Carl Rushworth, Josh Key, Jay Fulton, Ben Cabango, Harry Darling, Matt Grimes (captain), Jamie Paterson, Josh Tymon, Liam Cullen, Ollie Cooper, Ronald. Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Jerry Yates, Jamal Lowe, Charlie Patino, Mykola Kuharevich, Liam Walsh, Bashir Humphreys, Aimar Govea, Azeem Abdulai. It’s not a happy camp - Williams needs people to deliver for him tonight who he will ship out this Summer…. No wonder he came across as nervous on Sky Sports
