Apparently arrests are to do with stuff from the 90s. I doubt they've been as good as gold since then though....lot of worms in this can.

The corruption charges go back to the 90's and are not confined to them only.

We are all basking in feelings of superiority...just hope there are no British officials involved. American Grand Juries drag up everything. Didn't FIFA slap us for providing minor entertainment for our last WC bid....thought it was a bit rich at the time, but everything could get looked at here.

The English officials clearly didn't know the rules of the FIFA delegation.

    The scope has now increased.

The initial arrests on behalf of the FBI were only concerning Conacaf members but Swiss authorities look like they're launching a separate investigation

We should get to see the Garcia report now. Hope it was worth the wait. I bet I can guess who will win the vote this week though.

Its all 'alleged' atm, but the whole world knows that FIFA appears to have been corrupt as an organisation for donkeys years. Lets just hope that this is a 'once and for all' wide-ranging investigation and that it roots out all corrupt FIFA officials and that the US/Switzerland throw the book at them. Football is a very simple sport at grass roots level, but on a world scale its been spiraling out of control for many years. Lets get it sorted now.

Indeed, especially when it's been looking as though Blatter is going to walk away with the vote again, after his rivals have been dropping out of the contest. Problem is, he carries an awful lot of support from minor football countries. He's well known, and trusted [I know, I'm astonished too].

They arrested Chuck Blazer on a mobility scooter in Manhatten for God's sake, it was pretty clear the whole tale was going to unravel from there. I'm sure he's given them most everyone so he can get away relatively clean.

It works because FIFA needs the US (and its corporate sponsors) more than the US needs FIFA. After all, it's unlikely they are in line to host the World Cup any time soon. So, whereas most other countries would not want to bite the hand that feeds, the US has nothing to lose. They're more than happy to make a high-profile case and go nuts.

They should really be looking to solve the corruption and awfulness within their own police force however...but that's another story. For now, this is amazing.

The document in full is...really something: http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/nine-...ecutives-indicted-racketeering-conspiracy-and if they're moving under racketeering then that really gives the prosecuters license to kill (figuratively, not literally) as far as taking most of the organisation apart.

    • Jeffrey Webb: Current FIFA vice president and executive committee member, CONCACAF president, Caribbean Football Union (CFU) executive committee member and Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) president.

    • Eduardo Li: Current FIFA executive committee member-elect, CONCACAF executive committee member and Costa Rican soccer federation (FEDEFUT) president.

    • Julio Rocha: Current FIFA development officer. Former Central American Football Union (UNCAF) president and Nicaraguan soccer federation (FENIFUT) president.

    • Costas Takkas: Current attaché to the CONCACAF president. Former CIFA general secretary.

    • Jack Warner: Former FIFA vice president and executive committee member, CONCACAF president, CFU president and Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) special adviser.

    • Eugenio Figueredo: Current FIFA vice president and executive committee member. Former CONMEBOL president and Uruguayan soccer federation (AUF) president.

    • Rafael Esquivel: Current CONMEBOL executive committee member and Venezuelan soccer federation (FVF) president.

    • José Maria Marin: Current member of the FIFA organizing committee for the Olympic football tournaments. Former CBF president.

    • Nicolás Leoz: Former FIFA executive committee member and CONMEBOL president.
Four of the defendants were sports marketing executives:

    • Alejandro Burzaco: Controlling principal of Torneos y Competencias S.A., a sports marketing business based in Argentina, and its affiliates.

    • Aaron Davidson: President of Traffic Sports USA Inc. (Traffic USA).

    • Hugo and Mariano Jinkis: Controlling principals of Full Play Group S.A., a sports marketing business based in Argentina, and its affiliates.
Warner is big. What a prick that man is, I'm sure he'll give up a bunch of great information.

Not in the election. Unless this case scares the bejesus out of everyone prior to the vote. But he'll get his turn. They turned Blazer, got others and now they'll get more dirt when they get finished with these cases.
