http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spor...newcastle-united-tammy-abraham-loan--13090439 Good idea? Does leave more money for other areas, and we might get under his skin enough for a permanent transfer the day he realises he'll never break Chelsea's first team. Unproven in the Prem but scored nuts amount of goals for Bristol of all team last season, he's easy worth the punt to me
Got to be worth a shot - only thing is, he's probably more likely to get more game time with Brighton - especially if we continue with one up top
Very true, though with Gayle always an injury away and Mitrovic a red card walking he could get game time. Like you say though, will he come for 3rd, potentially 4th place with Ayoze
Think Mitro will be away and we'll buy another proven striker - can't see Benitez relying on bringing in Abraham as his first choice backup somehow
Abraham was incredible this season, smashed them in non-stop in a pretty poor team, definitely looks well above Champ standard, and I'm sure there's plenty of Prem teams fighting to get him on loan. I'm totally in favour of this.
We had a young striker scoring goals in the Championship that we pay for already - now what was his name, oh yes Armstrong!
And? He scores plenty for England as well. The thing is is that he is already here with us and we should be looking to use him and not loan in anyone else in this particular position. Armstrong can easily do that job - I think he just needs confidence when playing for us. Only striker I want to bring in is a main man - someone who has done it before and not an untried youngster especially an untried youngster from another club on loan.
And he clealy isn't Premier League standard yet, he was barely even Championship standard last season. He was clearly adept at League 1, but struggled to make the move up to the next league. And England kiddie level isn't relevant, Shola used to bang them in at that level. In terms of youth prospects Armstrong is clearly better than the likes of Haris Vuckic, but hasn't properly proved himself yet, and we can chance him in the Prem just yet, another loan season in the Champ. Abraham on the other hand looks pretty much the finished product already, he's not untried t all, he's annihilated the Championship and more than ready for the Prem, most of the bottom half Prem teams must be keen on him, would be a coup if we get him. I'm sure he'd score more in the Prem than Perez or Mitro.
In fact up until this season Armstrong was by far the more rated of the two. Tammy had a super season, Arma had an average season. Both will go on to be class players. One we already own. I know who I would take the chance with. Then again with some of our fans, young home grown players tend to be shat on.
It's about whether Rafa thinks he's good enough. If he's sending him on loan then he obviously doesn't think he's ready. There's no point playing young players if they aren't at the required level; you're just going to drop points and we can't afford to do that.
Obviously we don't know anything about Abraham before this season, because he'd only played 2 competitive games before this season. Abraham is clearly ready to be a Premier striker, Armstrong isn't. Simple as that. I'm not saying get rid, but he's still developing and needs another season on loan in the Champ to prove himself. And yes, if all the youth teams can give us is players like Haris Vuckic and Curtis Good then they might as well be scrapped. Our youth recruitment has been very poor for a long time and clearly isn't bringing us top class kids.
Why isn't there a Waddle/Beardsley/Gascoigne coming though? It's been a long time since we've had anyone like that. Are the kids just not playing football in the streets anymore?
Massive yes from me. I'd much prefer it was a permanent deal as I have a feeling this lad will do really well and we won't be able to retain him thereafter. If the loan is the best we can do then so be it. Ideally suited to how Rafa like to play. Has enough physical presence to hold the ball, but enough pace to go in behind. A bit of a Kluivert style of play. With Gayle and Mitro you get one or the other (probably why they looked so good as a combo in their one game together...)
Streets? They are not even allowed to play for their school team or county once they are in an academy fella. We've lost the ****ing plot! Which country produces the most gifted players in numbers? Brazil. Where do they learn their trade? On the beach or the favelas. I'm all for world class facilities and giving players every chance. At least let them develop their enjoyment of it first.
So do Chelsea. Hence they know that after he smashed the Champ, they need to get him being seen in the Prem as his value is going to rocket. Absolutely no chance of a permanent deal, he'll either go back to Chelsea end of next season or br sold for big money like Lukaku.
If we were buying Abrahams then I would consider it okay but again on the basis we do get a main striker. If we are loaning him, then no. As Haidara's Fan Boy says we should be stretching Armstrong to see if he can step up and determine if he's going to make the grade. He's now 20yo and I don't see the point in loaning him out again. Who to? Another Championship team? Why? Why help Chelsea develop another player who if he makes it goes back to them and if he doesn't then it's at our expense. Yes he may be a success for a year but then again we have then wasted that year in progressing Armstrong. As the Ponytail says, why not just scrap our youth teams and allow Chelsea, Man City and the likes to hoover up all young talent and get everyone else to test them so that they can then decide whether to keep them or not. Also what message does it give any young player thinking of coming to NUFC. Abrahams seems a good player but so does Armstrong. Pointless having him if we never give him a chance to prove if he's good enough. He'll not do that at Coventry or Barnsley but he could do it here and here is the only place he can prove it. Also wish ALL Clubs would stop taking loan players as this does not ultimately help anyone but the top 4/6 Clubs.
