It is a good thing short term, but as someone else touched upon it is very hard for teams not in European competition to have deep squads as players get pissed off not playing enough when they could be closer to first team at another Prem team. As an example say we sign Vilhena, and he is a success, and Davis/JWP drop down the pecking order. If we fail to get European football then they probably would be looking for a move to get more playing time like Cork.

Moving down the pecking order is part of the life of a footballer. I suspect if they have confidence in their ability, they don't panic too soon. The more successful a club, the more players will put up with it as it is a good working environment. Can't remember which manager it was (Adkins?), but one said that footballers are paid to train and be available.

Pochypoo said a players first responsibility is to train.

But if they drop down the pecking order it will be because we have a better player and therefore have improved. That's sport. I certsinly want us to keep progressing and improving. That's the name of the game!

We can't let sentiment and fondness for any player get in the way of progression. If that happens we stand still and the reality is no one stands still, they go forwards or backwards.

I completely agree, was just making the point that it is hard to have 2 quality players in every position when you aren't in European competition, which hopefully for a season at least we will have next year.

Yep. It would be so helpful if we got over the line of European qualification.

So Inter Milan are apparently suing Osvaldo and asking for 28M.

    Go Inter!

    We should do the same.

Oh and Osvaldo is suing Inter for €3m for not being able to train.<laugh>

Surely frivolous? If there was a case for that surely we would have done something similar

See the idea that Liverpool could take Ings and loan him back is a non-starter as not allowed by PL rules.

Isn't that what Man Utd did with Zaha? Or was that different because Palace were Championship at the time?

This was talked about two pages back. When FLT posted about Burnley saying it was illegal.

    Sorry:emoticon-0111-blush

So is it the fact that it would be the same season or that it is the same division that is the problem?

Dutch press saying our first bid for Vilhena was rejected. But we have put in a second already and they think it will be accepted.

My post stated that signing three players to play the same position can be tricky, so it's a good thing that we have already got two signed. It even started with the words "GOOD THING..."

Seriously, you need to learn to read.

Seriously. You need to chill :)

Re-read your post and it does suggest that having three in the same position can be tricky ... it is ambiguous even if you didn't mean it that way.

No need to be rude, the written word can be taken in a different meaning.

But FLT is wrong, isn't he? Utd did loan Zaha straight back. His current loan from Utd is his second loan from Utd to Palace.

Either the rules have recently changed, or it because Utd and Palace were in different leagues back then (ie it is possible that PL rule is for PL to PL transfers only).

Yes, it is PL to PL that isn't allowed. Makes sense as you could attempt to gain an advantage.
