A superb renewal of this race looks in prospect with a host of top names entered. Run over 2m 4f, the race has a great roll of honour with names such as Djakadam, Don Cossack, Flemenstar, Kicking King, Beef Or Salmon and further back the likes of Carvill's Hill, Dawn Run and Captain Christy having taken the honours.

Current entries include Douvan, Djakadam, Black Hercules and Alelchi Inois from Willie Mullins' yard, Henry de Bromhead's progressive Sub Lieutenant, 3 from Gordon Elliot (Clarcam, Outlander, Roi des Francs) and 2 from Mouse Morris, Mozoltov and Smashing.

    Current prices:

    Djakadam 15/8
    Black Hercules 7/2
    Sub Lieutenant 9/2
    Outlander 10/1
    12/1 bar

Indications that Douvan won't run, at least from the market.

I like Sub Lieutenant for this, rising star and very good jumper.

Looks like Douvan will be running in the Hilly Way Chase at Cork over 2m1f on the same afternoon.

Nice to see Black Hercules out. Starting at 2 and a half again, is it fair to say he might be readied for a Ryanair this year prior to Gold Cup a year down the line?

<laugh> you obviously never heard the whole story Oddy. Big story here at the time but Peter Casey's "how to train your way to the top playbook" was stolen from his house about 25 year ago this month. They never caught the suspect but W.Mullins was caught on CCTV just on the outskirts of town that night leading to all sorts of rumours. Mullins reportedly gives him a cut of all his wins to keep his silence and as Peter is not getting any younger, he agreed to the deal.

This story is based on almost real events!
