Found a nice article which summaries the career of Jose Fonte from January 2010 to Portugals victory in France this summer http://thesefootballtimes.co/2016/0...m-league-one-to-european-championship-winner/ No doubt the club will be celebrating the triumphant return of Jose and Cedric to the pre-season camp shortly. So thought it would be nice for us to share our favourite Jose moments and where you think Jose sits in terms of his importance to our club in its history and whether he would make your all time saints XI
Favourite Jose moment - after he scored against Brighton in 2011 and sprinted about 50 yds to the Saints fans to celebrate the goal - the passion and desire on his face was fantastic. Great player, great asset to the club and a proper role model. I run out of superlatives really when it comes to Jose.
Jose is already at the same level as true Saints icons like Matty, Terry, Mick, Rickie etc... One of my favourite memories of Jose was his handling of Diego Costa, Jose got the better of him in the penalty area and Costa turned around to confront him angrily, within a couple of seconds Jose had managed to calm him down and they parted amicably. That to me shows me what Jose ia all about, he is a leader of men and a great diplomat, i'm certain that he wlll be a successful Saints manager in the future and he clearly loves the club too. I ran a poll for the not606 all time Saints XI last Summer and Jose was voted into it by us....
That goal feels like yesterday, I do miss the days in league one and the championship, makes me feel all nostalgic!
Remember that as clear as day because I was at work. There was a TV in technology section near the tills....it was amazing how often I had to wander slowly past whilst working. Was signalling score to the lad on the till who had been too slow to get away from the customers.
Quite remarkable career for the Saints, so influential on and off the pitch? Can't imagine many supporters not having him an all time freat Saints 11. Remember that goal at Brighton so well, still brings a bit of a lump in the throat.
