Indeed. I have a feeling that this situation will make the IOC/IPC really think twice about who hosts is the future. 1st world countries are generally safe, 2nd and 3rd world countries will now be a worry.
Was earlier this year I think. It's similar to cycle helmets and is counter intuitive, but they actually increase the risk of head injury.
Bullshit that - Joyce easily won that first round. EDIT: And again, more bullshit! Joyce won that second round too!
Joe Joyce ends our Olympics with a Silver medal in the Super Heavyweight Boxing. ****ing bullshit judging yet again in the boxing.
What's French for ****er He was smashing through the guard quite often - they don't score but they still hurt
FFS...Stewards enquiry required at the boxing..The Brit goes forward from the first bell, but still loses to a guy who hardly slings a punch in three rounds.. About time they called time on Olympic boxing. Too many judges who just got off the banana boat...
Right then. That's it, the Olympics are now pretty much over (bar the basketball and the closing ceremony). The Summer Olympics go by way too quickly. It almost doesn't seem fair that we have to wait 4 years for the greatest event in the World to come around. Team GB Medal Breakdown Gold - 27 Silver - 23 Bronze - 17 Total - 67 Our greatest medal haul since 1908, when we won 146 medals as hosts, back in a day when the hosts would always dominate the games as they would usually outnumber the other athletes by around 3 or 4 times. As a result, this is considered our greatest ever Olympic performance. We are the first nation to increase our medal haul after a home Olympics, and also the first ever nation to increase our medal haul for 5 consecutive games. Over a third of Team GB won medals (131 from 360 athletes). After the ****ty year we've had so far, the positivity and just all round feel-good emotions around the Olympics have really picked everyone up when we needed it most. Whilst I do think personally 2012 was a better Olympic games as a whole, probably bias because I was there and went to so many events, this one has been absolutely fantastic too. Congratulations to every single athlete who won a medal at the Olympics, regardless of nation - but of course, a massive thank you and congrats to every single member of Team GB. Goodbye, Rio. Onto Tokyo.
Lovely piece. It just shows what happens when you add skill to a bloody minded to win. It's such a shame other sportsmen seem unable to be the same.
Have to say I have loved the Olympics and the enthusiasm my lad has shown in watching every sport possible - He's only 6. He turned the other day and said 'Dad table tennis is brilliant!' Ha - though he has bestowed that accolade on pretty much every sport he's watched! It's been an excellent 2 weeks and brilliant publicity for some of the less common sports. My favourite obscure moment was probably the gold win by Nick Skelton. 58 and his sole desire has been to win the gold, which he nailed finally. His interview afterwards was almost overwhelming. He'd dedicated himself to however many Olympic Games in pursuit of gold. To me that demonstrates hard work and perseverance really can pay off. Rio Olympics, we'll miss you.
Team GB, 1936-2004: 73 Golds. Team GB, 2008-2016: 75 Golds. I think there's only one song to sum up the feelings towards Team GB over these past 8 years.
Just seen the Mongolian protest after their wrestler was docked a point and as a result missed out on bronze The coaches for Mongolia stripped off to their pants and threw the clothes they were wearing at the judges Brilliant.
