I believe that's what they did at Boro and they have windsurfing and jet skiing on there now.

You'd have a job skateboarding on wooden decking.

Whenever it's being looked at in the past, it was the legal issues associated with river traffic, and some not insignificant technical issues that stopped it. It's not just a case of lock gates.

This is what they did on the Tees...

The Tees Barrage is a barrage across the River Tees just upriver of Blue House Point in the borough of Stockton-on-Tees in North East of England and is used to control the flow of the river, preventing flooding and the effects of tidal change. The Tees Barrage comprises a river barrage, road bridge, footbridge, barge lock, fish pass and white water course. The waters above the barrage are permanently held at the level of an averagehigh tide and are used for watersports such as canoeing, jet skiing, dragonboat racing and incorporates a 1 km rowing course. The barrage is accessible by road only from Thornaby-on-Tees as there is very limited road access to the north bank of the Tees.

My understanding is that was one of a number of schemes looked at, but technical and legal issues reduce the viability. Not all water courses are the same.

The Tees Barrage is also well upstream from the river mouth - it's in a position roughly equivalent to Sutton Road, I'd guess.

The Council have issue a Compulsory Purchase Order on the National Picture Theatre, so hopefully that one will finally get sorted.

Any News being released or Updates on the Rank Hovis Site. Have'nt been down that way for a while. Not sure of any developments. And I would of thought that the Hilton Hotel chain would've made a move on the Ferensway site. That's been sat all flattened out for 3 months now.?

The Rank Hovis site has been completely cleared now, but there's no work going on there now. The Ferensway site has also been cleared, but there's a bit of a delay as they've made some amendments to their planning application.

OLM, Are ALL the buildings in Roper Street, being demolished. On both sides of the Street. The workmen are down there as I post this. All blocked off from both ends.

Everything is now being demolished, it's a shame as there are a couple of really nice buildings and the new Venue that's replacing them is pig ugly.

Was there a pub in Roper Street? To get to it, you had to run the gauntlet of the girls in Waterhouse Lane.
If so - anyone recall its name?

Where's this place? Apparently under sentence of death so as to provide another car-park. Apparently it's Victorian and 'locally listed'.
