Stanley, The Hull Braves Guild building , had this very week in the chambers of Hull City Council , an application denied to list It as a Grade, (whatever) and Save It. The motion was denied. And now can be torn down. Yes as part of the car parking facilities for the New Hull Venue.
Venue next to the pub used to be called Hogs Breath, decent music venue back end of the 90's going in to the 00's then it became a lap dancing club which may or may not have been called the Office. Is'nt Hull Boys Club down Roper St,i presume thats going as well then, unless its already shut down, haven't been down there in years.
Indeed it was, i went in The Office the first week it opened and got a lapdance from a Kelly Brook doppleganger. She was gifted.
You have to apply to Historic England to get a building listed, it was them rejected the application, it had nothing to do with Hull City Council. Hull City Council had it on their 'local list', which is a list of important historic local buildings, but it doesn't really offer any protection. In fact, it's next to useless.
That's not Royal William, Royal William was further west. The braves guild building has needed pulling down for years. It was only really the ground floor. The upper floors were a printers through the 60's and 70's, becoming a gym later on. Comendable as an organisation in its day, helping polio victims. There was only a few members when it finally folded a bit back. There seems to be a bizarre clamour to save every old building or pile of bricks, when a more focussed approach would be better.
cheers - got that in later post 422 - must admit I like to see the old building brought back to life - think its sad when they're pulled down and replaced with a 'modern' mess
I don't disagree, I just think some of the buildings people seem to want to save are not that much of a loss, and I'd include the Braves Guild Building with that. I know if goes against the grain with some, but I can't see the fuss with the Lord LIne building and to some extent the old picture house. There are better ways of remembering what they represent. Now if they were preserving old pubs, I'd be in favour of keeping them going rather than having shops with beer pumps and chairs in the window, which seems to be the fad..
I can remember going in the office, one of my mates was so keen to get in and see the girls took a wrong turn inside and practically kicked in a large meter cupboard door thinking the girls were on the other side in a frantic teenage fury. The bouncers didn't seem to find it as funny....
Not going to be built for 2017 - not really a surprise . . . New Radisson Blu hotel will NOT be built in time for Hull City of Culture 2017 THE new Radisson Blu hotel will not be built in time for 2017, but the company behind its construction says it will be an "important asset" for Hull once it is completed. The 168-room hotel, on the former Rank Hovis Mill site, next to Drypool Bridge, was scheduled to open in 2017 when plans were first unveiled last year. But Manor Property Group, which is building the hotel, has said delays to the demolition work and other factors have pushed back its opening date. image: http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/images/localworld/ugc-images/276270/binaries/Raddison.jpg please log in to view this image Property Search For Sale GO Director Philip Akrill said: "We would love to have opened it in time for the year of culture, but that is probably not feasible anymore. "We were hoping to be on site last October if we had not had the trouble with our demolition contractors. We had to clear that up and it has delayed us a little. • More news: 50 new jobs at Home Bargains store in Hull's Kingston Retail Park "It is a multi-use, mixed-use development, and it is not easy to pull that together in a city the size of Hull. "It is difficult, but we are completely funded, and what we need to do now is get it moving." The hotel, which will have an all-day restaurant, health club and lobby bar, is now expected to open in mid-2018, with construction expected to start later this year. Along with the Radisson Blu hotel, the site will also get a 23-storey residential tower, a public plaza with five new restaurants, a large casino and more than 600 student homes. • More news: Former Edwin Davis store in Hull city centre could be made into homes "We are waiting to go," Mr Akrill said. "We are signed up until quarter four of 2019. "We are not going to have spent £700,000 knocking down a building to leave a piece of flat concrete in Hull. "This hotel is as far advanced as any other in the city." Mr Akrill said the new site would "re-energise" the east bank of the River Hull. He said: "It is a very large and important asset to Hull and to us. We have got a Radisson coming."
Does anyone know what is being built on Cleveland Street on the old ADM Cocoa site? It is a huge framework that has gone up
OMG..They've just found the lessor spotted newt on the Rank site, so all development work is to stop for a public enquiry whilst they wonder what to do...They'll get that sorted then some tree hugger will find bat droppings...Its Hull..Its bound to happen..
Hollybrook, the development company who own the old Edwin Davis building, have announced that as market conditions have improved and due to increased profile of Hull as we approach the City of Culture year, they're now drawing up plans to convert it to flats. please log in to view this image
I never thought anything would ever happen with this one, it's been rotting away for my entire lifetime and beyond I think. Good news then.
