Think this is another of those Adam watshisface moments where the press are clueless as to the deal. £8m could be to total cost of the contract (including wages) as it was quoted with Ji - added bits on hereand there to make it look a massive fee when we're actually paying £1.5m up front and the rest in wages and add ons!! (speculation - much like the journo's BTW)

And reports in the last 24 hours suggest business on Wearside is only just starting. As Sebastian Coates became the first almost-new face to join the Black Cats this summer on Wednesday night, Thursday evening saw them agree a fee with Celtic for full-back Adam Matthews. Reports suggest that Sunderland had failed in a bid in the region £1.1m for the Wales international and reports vary as to whether the improved offer which has been accepted is either £1.5m or £2m. Most seem to think it is £2m, but the Daily Record in Scotland are reporting the lower fee. Either way it is expected that the Black Cats will have that deal wrapped up soon. Another player they are believed to be close to signing is Chelsea’s highly-rated midfielder Marco van Ginkel. please log in to view this image Martin Stoever/Bongarts/Getty Images Marco van Ginkel The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at AC Milan and it is reported that Sunderland are now favourites to capture the player on a season long loan – beating off interest from rivals Newcastle. Dick Advovaat has already expressed a desire to make use of the two domestic loans available to him and the club, and Van Ginkel looks set to be the first of two permitted. Elsewhere, reports this week have linked Sunderland to two of Advocaat’s former players at previous clubs. please log in to view this image Gareth Bale of Wales is challenged by Nicolas Lombaerts Nicolas Lombaerts, a 30-year-old Belgian centre-back who is still playing at Zenit where Advocaat signed him, is reportedly in talks with the Wearsiders over a reported £5m switch. If we land our targets ----------Pantillimon----------- Matthews-Coates-Lombaerts-Pva ----------Cattermole------------- -----Van Ginkel--Larsson-------- ---Downing--Defoe--Lens------- Subs Pickford O'Shea Jones Gomez Rodwell Watmore Wickham
Looks promising, though I don't know enough about Lens tbh. Not sure about Downing either. Sooner or later though, Watmore has to get a regular run. Use him or lose him!
Absolutely but wed be foolish to not prepare our squad as if he's gone then leave ourselves a man short if he's found guilty
Sunderland have £8.5m striker bid refused so change targets to African forward SPORT WITNESSSport Witness Football View Discussions please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Portuguese newspaper Jornal De Noticias have some interesting claims for Sunderland fans on Friday. Jornal De Noticias aren't quite as sensational in their transfer reporting as other Portuguese newspapers so are more trustworthy, and they say the latest claims are from their own sources. Sunderland are apparently turning their sights back to Algerian striker Islam Slimani, who currently plays for Sporting Lisbon. Slimani has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League and at 27 years of age he'll be hoping to get the transfer whilst in his prime. Wages in the Premier League are far superior to those in Portugal and even at a lower table club he'd been multiplying his salary several times. It's no wonder he'd be keen on a transfer. Jornal De Noticias don't say there's been any bid yet but they reckon an approach would in the same financial region as what it's claimed in the Ukrainian press Sunderland bid for Jeremain Lens. Dynamo Kyiv have knocked back a €12m approach from Sunderland, which works out to be around £8.5m. That bid probably wouldn't be enough to force Sporting into selling Slimani either, with the Portuguese club aiming closer to his €30m release clause. Probably more bullshit.

After that ridiculous vote about who you'd want out, I'm sure he'll be happy to leave if he gets the chance.
Been linked with Junior Hoilett for £2.5m in the Mirror, very pacey player but doesnt have much of an end product
Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel admits he is living an uncertain existence over his future, with Sunderland among several clubs vying to sign him on loan. Sunderland’s eagerness to boost their options out wide have been evident over recent days, as the Black Cats pursue leading targets Stewart Downing and Jeremain Lens, yet head coach Dick Advocaat is also keen to strengthen his hand in central midfield. Both Dutch international winger Lens, and Belgian international centre-half Nicolas Lombaerts fall into that category, yet neither are as close to joining Sunderland as has been suggested after the pair returned to pre-season training with their respective clubs. Lombaerts has joined Zenit St Petersburg at their training camp in Austria, while Lens featured for Dynamo Kiev in a friendly last night.
Sunderland face a continued headache over Santiago Vergini’s future after Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys pulled out of the race for the defender. The Black Cats are duty-bound to sign Vergini in a £2million deal from Costa Rican outfit Sport Uruguay de Coronado this summer after he made more than 20 appearances in a red and white shirt during last season’s loan spell at the Stadium of Light. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...r-sunderland-over-defender-s-future-1-7344664
