    Maybe not 4.5 times as good but we bought Shane when he was what 27/28? Lukaku is 23. I'd say Lukaku's potential is 4.5 times as great as Shane Long.

    What chance we could buy Patrick Roberts from Man City. Not sure how tight his loan contract with Celtic is, and suspect City rate him highly, but would love to see him down here.

    IF we were to get those two, McCarthy and another RB we'd be very well set for the season. A splattering of youth signings thrown in for good measure too would be nice.

    Yeah but Everton are a super-massive European giant with billions to spend, unrivalled levels of attraction to players and managers alike and... err... err... they're signing a soon-to-be 32-year-old Ashley Williams to go with the soon-to-be 34-year-old Maarten Stekelenburg.

    Look, I know we're supposed to hate everything Everton does now or something, but 10m for a very good CB isn't bad business, even if he only has a couple years left at the highest level. If their strategy is to get a couple good value signings and spend big on a handful of others, I'd say that they're off to a good start.

    I guess I'll have to disagree, then. I think that he's a very capable CB, not wholly unlike Fonte. There aren't many central defenders better at reading play and beating their man to the ball, and while age will catch up with him, it should be a good move for this season, if nothing else.

    Indeed. If he was their headline summer signing, it would be quite laughable. But if he's one of, say, five new additions to their first XI (with, say, two of whom really being quite top notch), then it'll be a pretty decent signing.

    Is he in Virgil's league? Absolutely not. Is he an upgrade on Jagielka (who is more than two years older than Williams)? I'd say so. I'd roughly put him on a par with Fonte.
