Today, we enter the last chance saloon to face our final showdown of the season. Reading what some have to say on here, if we were about to take part in the gunfight at the OK corral, we should simply leave our ammubition at home. Some are even implying that they are looking forward to our getting beaten so that we can get back in the Championship. To my mind that is an insult to every past player for the club and to generations of fans who have stood on the terraces dreaming of top flght football. No doubt they were all would be premier league whores in the making. I have even read that we are a ''small town'' club merely trying to compete with the big boys. Tell that to Burnley and Sunderland and Southampton - all of them smaller than Kingston upon Hull yet I don't hear any of their fans looking forward to the prospect of relegation. We are the only turkeys on the block voting for Christmas. I accept the fact that we will be lucky to survive today. That prospect pains me but ... the fat lady hasn't started to sing yet!
There appear to be different methods of population accounting. These are the figures I used (again from wiki). It goes to show that there are lies, damned lies and statistics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Primary_Urban_Areas_in_England_by_population
So a rallying call has turned into a discussion about how population is calculated. Didn't want to nit pick? The Nit Picker? Of course not. @hcafc-anon Cracking OP that. Shame the usual suspect had to step in and split hairs as per and turn it into something else Never underestimate the power of the fans. You can do your part and beat a very beatable Man U today. Forget the final outcome, just throw caution to the wind and create a fortress. Come on Hull!!!!
Daft small boundaries like us, the population of the city itself in only 250k, but the urban area in 850k and the metropolitan area is well over 1.5m, it's definitely bigger than here.
It was a light hearted remark, there's an awful lot of stuff on here that goes sailing over your head.
There sure are. https://thegeographist.wordpress.com/2013/11/23/largest-cities-uk-population/ Other lists show Bolton as larger than Hull and Leeds with less.
I think all these posts reminding us to be supportive are a bit pointless. In the ground people will be supportive, but the factors that have contributed to our atmosphere all season will still be there. Until people are allowed to stand up and sing and something is organised to facilitate that, it's only ever going to be pockets in the North stand and maybe the East. East seems to have got more quiet over the course of this season though. Lately, the ground is full of a lot of people who are never going to sing, the demographic in the ground is largely spectators. Uninspiring team performances affect the atmosphere more than they should but that might be different today because of its one-off nature.
What you've got to realise is that most folk on here have incredibly short attention spa...... Oooh, look. - A puppy!!!!!!!! It's a cockapoo!!! Or a wolf. Or something.
How dissapointing. A speck on my screen made it look like 'Turkeys' had an apostrophe. That would have been a fun discussion.
That and an increasing feel of being disconnected from the club I'll be stood up and singing today, I always do , and occasionally as ever I'll even start some songs off But if I was someone who only occasionally sang, and only stood in moments of drama then maybe I'd be quieter too Anyway one last hurrah today, not to say I won't be back ( in fact I will ) but it feels odd to be going having not renewed for next season This post breakfast beer is helping though
