Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "It was a typical Premier League game. A team that likes to play and a team that defends well.

"It was a tough performance. They caught us on set-pieces and one break and that made the difference.

"Overall our record against set-pieces is quite good. We were a bit naive, maybe, on the corners. Then we were punished. It's a shame. We looked in the second half to take completely over.

"We didn't create enough. We lost Sanchez in the second half, he was very dangerous in the first. He came out in the second half and he couldn't move any more. In the first half he was a guy who created a lot.

"It leaves us in a unique situation that we've never had before. We face big problems to regroup and find resources to sort out the problem. We need some togetherness.

"We face some serious challenges. The City game at home is a big game for us."

The guy is such a sour puss and doesn't give credit to the better side, which was WBA. "It was a typical Premier League game. A team that likes to play and a team that defends well".

Probably the worst timing in history if it is <laugh>. If true then it shows you how clueless the management are.

Going back to the team performance, that was a really poor showing overall. The manager needs to stop defending their poor performances and kick some ass. Unfortunately his niceness and lack of ruthless has come to bite him. Some of those players aren't worth it.

We dont need Mertesacker we have Holding who looks a top quality young defender. Just not sure how many mistakes our defenders have to make to get dropped.

Barca haven't done too badly in over a decade. The only rally tall player there has been Pique, and they have played against teams with lots of physicality for many a year in the CL. So lack of height may just be one aspect to Arsenal's ability to defend against tall opponents.

Yep - but the Spanish philosophy to the game is different. If you go down the leagues in this country you will still fid the 'lump the ball up to the big man up top' approach. That philosophy still lingers even in the EPL. Can a smaller team beat a bigger team? Of course.. but size and athleticsm is still an advantage. Something that Wenger seems to have forgotten.

A few years ago I was teaching English to a Udinese player on loan at RDC Mallorca fo the season. He had previously been on loan at Watford for the season. During the lesson we of course talked about football and the difference between some of the Continentals and British footballers. He said the British were more physical and muscular, the Continentals more technical. The Germans are both.

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez's right ankle is in "an absolutely terrible state" and he may have ligament damage, says manager Arsene Wenger.

Because he doesn't have a manager. Our players manage themselves. Sanchez players as and when he chooses to.

or your manager is so desperate he risked it & Sanchez being that sort of player goes out & gives it a go.

    don't know obviously but it's a thought

IF this is true I'm totally pissed off! How on earth was he assessed to go out for the 2nd half, this is pure madness and someone needs to be sacked for negligence!

    IT ONLY HAPPENS @ ARSENAL!

    Wengers words

"He should not have played in the second half but he insisted that he wanted to," Wenger said. "In the end we had to take him off."

Who exactly is in charge? The management or the players? The team doctor should have assessed the situation and not brought him on in the second half!

as an Arsenal fan, I feel a bit lost. I truly don't know what to do anymore, and I think this will only get worse if/when wenger signs a two year deal...

I don't know whether to just suck it up and support the team, or continue voicing being disillusioned and disappointed. You can see the signs and the planes aren't helping matters, but we also don't look good enough in general; and to be honest wengers position looks untenable, as even the smallest things (subbing Sanchez when injured) illicit a negative response from our fans.

This season is turning a bit into a nightmare; similar to last really, except then all the other teams around us were **** as well.

Wenger tenure right now reminds me of a relationship approaching the break up stage where both parties have had enough of each other, the magic is gone, but they are both too scared of the future so they continue on together.

Really ashamed the board havnt stepped in and said "listen the offer is off; it's better to just part ways at this point, things are only getting worse"

My scattered thoughts in this post are coincidentally the same as our team -Disorganized, clueless, confused, lacking decisive action, and unsure who to look up to for direction.
