Match Day Thread West Brom vs Southampton K.O 3pm (28/02/2015)

Never done one of these so I thought I'd give it a go.


This weekend Saints travel up to the Hawthorns in hope that they can put last Sunday's result against Liverpool out of their minds. With Spurs playing in the League Cup final on Sunday, a win could see us go 5 points ahead of them, even if they were to have a game in hand, their game in hand being against QPR. Liverpool also play Man City on sunday, a game where they could drop points. A win for Saints this weekend would make things look far rosier going into Tuesdays game against Palace.

Southampton form : WLLWDL. - currently 5th. Saints need goals.

West Brom form : WLDWWD. - currently 14th. Tony Pulis has turned performances around since his arrivals, and is getting £10 million signing Ideye scoring goals.

Last time they met : St Mary's Stadium : 0-0. That's all there really is to say about that match.

Prediction : West Brom have been playing much better since Pulis has arrived, and have picked up points from most of their last few games. Their 4-0 win over West Ham in the Fa Cup is certainly a result that raised eyebrows. Brown Ideye has hit a little patch of form and will be hoping to carry that through to this game. Saints on the other hand are struggling to score, but that doesn't mean that other areas of their game have been bad, they have been very good actually. With West Brom at home they may go forward more than teams recently who have successfully parked the bus against Saints, leaving space at the back. If Saints can keep their forwards quiet, we have a chance of winning the game and sneaking it.

Thanks for doing the thread! Hopefully Toby Alderweireld will be back as well as Bertrand, which will be tough on Yoshida. I think Tadić and Mané will probably start as well, in which case Elia and Djuricic will miss out too.

 

Elia's a doubt, according to the Echo.

Slightly off piste...WBA will be displaying a flag saying Justice for Jeff Astle. This is part of a campaign to raise awareness about brain damage in footballers after head injury/concussion and to encourage research. Enforcing the idea of taking players off if concussion is suspected...particularly relevant at the moment as a rugby player was allowed to carry on when he should have been taken off.

Apparently Elia turned his ankle on Sunday and hasn't trained all week.

 

Long in for Elia then. Need pace this weekend, no good lobbing balls in the box against lescott and co

 

Toby's back in training, but won't feature Saturday. Back Tuesday.

 

Toby not fit according to the the Presser, which seemed to break down and I missed some of it.

 

I hope this is as exciting as the game I watched at St Mary's early in the season...

 

Ron's press conference went off line. Only bit I got was that Toby won't be available for Saturday but should make Tuesday.

 

Put a bit of his presser up on Sky. Talking about the WC in 2022, Ron said that in England we like to play at Xmas and in Happy New Year . Also added that it is not his problem although it is a long time till 2022 and he could be England manager by then.
