We will never know unless we are up in the board rooms of Arsenal, but the fact that we've bought two marquee signings for top dollar suggests we can mix it with those guys.
Wenger has had the benefit of doubt for so long during the rebuilding phase but he's had a very good budget and complete control for quite some time now, but it's the same old issues resurfacing. We are no closer to winning the CL or the league.
I think we can 'mix it', but Maureen will be given a £200m budget in the summer on top of the £90m Pogba and **** know what sort of wages that Ibra is on. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that we can finally spend big money, but it's not on the same level as Utd, City or Chelsea.
So what if he gets more, Wenger gets a fat enough budget too, and if he put pressure on those upstairs, he could easily increase the limit. Besides the silly money, Wenger has a fantastic budget in his own right, which is enough to build a title winning team. The team he has at the moment is good enough and shouldn't be collapsing Jan/Feb. I'm afraid that is down to the manager. Wenger could get in Benzema or another top striker and we'd still be in the same spot. It's his players, his team and his tactics. The buck ends with him.
Don't disagree with any of that. Just the point about Wenger having more support and resources than any other manger.
Support can be measured in more ways than money. The board have stuck with him through thick and thin and will continue to do so even not winning the league for a very long time, or getting close to winning the CL for over 10 years. He gets his own players in and has unprecedented control over the club. Dear i say, more than SAF had with Man U.
It's also about punching above your weight. See Poch at Spurs whos doing very well with them or you could argue Chelsea who have been spending less than both the mancs (especially if you talk about net). Wengers spend is par and even then his budget is way higher than others
Sanchez and Ozil were 'marquee'. Xhaka and Mustafi were pretty much unheard of until you signed them. To the rest of us, the timing plus their price tags screamed 'panic' more than 'wow'.
As Piskie says, the marquee signings are Sanchez and Ozil. But also buying Xhaka and Mustafi for high sums shows that we can mix it with the best, whether or not you regard those as panic buys.
When the fans at rival opposition stadia are chanting "Wenger we want you to stay" consistently year after year you know your manager isn't doing a great job.
Guardiola would win the league with this Arsenal squad. Klopp is on a similar level to old senile version of Wenger - good manager but not elite. (Gonna annoy plenty of people with this but his teams always seem to have massive lapses in concentration.)
Klopp will plop. Pep will soon lose his rep. Wenger should stick to playing Jenga. Eddie Howe will be managing Arsenal somehow with a kapow!
