Yes it is. Steak and Kidney is the number one for me. And a pie has to have a pastry base and side as well as a top. None of that lid on a mini casserole dish, not a pie. Forgot about hairy, I'm changing my number one
This reminded me of a time when I was working a lot in Egypt. Most evenings the ex-pat community which was made up of Brit's/Dutch/Swedes/Swiss/German's would congregate for drinks in the local hotel where most of us were staying. This particular evening, several of the Brits had finished a contract with the Navy and going home, so we arranged in the hotel dinner and asked the chef if he could do a Streak and Kidney pie. As it happened 12 of us sat down and had the dinner and after a few drinks wished them bon voyage and went to bed. The next morning we woke up to find that most of them were in the hospital with food poisoning, it turned out the Kidney wasn't right, but luckily I don't like Kidney so I didn't eat it, just the steak part. It was fondly known thereafter as the last supper.
8 times out of 10 if we go for a meal the wife peruses the menu and then goes for the pie. The only one she won't have is steak and kidney. I love fried kidneys but even the smell of those makes her retch. She completely agrees with your definition of what a pie is.
Love a good pie..... chicken & mushroom is my fave! There’s a pub near Driffield that sell over 50 types of pies. Amazing place. Chestnut horse in kelk (think that’s the place!) Edit- here’s a link .https://www.chestnuthorse.co.uk/our-food/
A while since I have been there but it wascalwaysca decent pub. Used to do a very good steak when I went.
I like to get stuck into a nice pie. Hot or cold, seeet or savoury I’m not fussy but without a pastry top & a pastry bottom it’s not a pie.
Shortcrust. No other type of pastry is permitted. Puff? **** off. Flaky? You must be if you'll eat that ****. Filo? Makes flaky look almost edible. Choux? Shoo more like. Hot water crust? That's alright anarl actually.
Ahhh skeletons..... fletchers were ok too RIP to both... wouldn’t have moved away if those 2 were still going lol
Rabbit (lapin aux pruneaux) &/or pheasant for me please chef. Accompanied by lightly done spring veggies aus jus.
