Most exciting Final of all time, Just watched it to-day, and the Durham lad Stokes (man of the match), did us proud.
Thought we had lost it typically England style. Stokes was remarkable. Redeemed himself for that T20 final.
Coming down to the last ball after 7 weeks of cricket was amazing. Archer was incredible throughout the tournament...
Absolutely amazing! That deflection for 4 which meant 6 was absolutely unbelievable!!!! Thoroughly enjoyed every second although watching it with my Dad on the remote was a bloody nightmare!! Flicking between it and the tennis. End of over... tennis... break between ends in tennis..., WATCHES THE ****ERS DRINKING WATER!!!!!!
Plunkett and Wood who came through the ranks at Durham, too. Add in Harmison, Collingwood, Onions, etc and we make up a decent chunk of British seekers!
It's what the remote is for marcus. When you get to a certain age you have to make sure you watch as much as you can in case it's the last thing you see. (I only do it to annoy the missus of course) You could not have written the script for that ending in a million years could you. I have to say I do feel a bit for the Kiwis who more than played their part in the match. Unbelievable ending and I did think we had lost the game on at least a dozen occasions through it. At one point I wasn't sure if we were trying to win it or throw it away. Will have to wait a very long time to see anything close again.
I’ve never been a massive cricket fan, but had a few days off and have been watching, thoroughly enjoyed the bits I watched but wasn’t expecting to get that hooked. It was as much of a spectacle of sport as I’ve ever seen, I’ve rarely felt highs and lows like it, it was dead then alive then dead then alive. The manner of the last over was just the epitomy of why I say I can’t comprehend when someone says ‘they aren’t into sport’. Absolute and pure theatre. Then 15 in an over under pressure looks comfortable, then 3 off 2 it’s gone. It was fantastic. I was as gripped as I’ve ever been to any football match, it was just jaw dropping stuff, over and over again.
Great game, and some great commentary to boot, "if that guy is as cool as he looks he isn't a human" was one that stood out, for me, but there were many more.
the first cricket match i have ever watched as it is complicated, but knew the situation, and thought New zealand would win it as i thought we had to get 4's etc but that amazing mistake by the New zealand player when his foot just went over the boundry to give us 6 it was edge of seat stuff.. So finally after the men football last year the women this year, we win a world cup maybe the netball next ? Lewis hamilton also.
Overall I prefer cricket to football though partly that's because the players are more down to earth and tend to be local to their counties (though less than they used to be). Though the final wasn't the greatest indicator of what cricket is usually like it's fair to say that most of the one-day matches and almost every test match ebbs and flows in a way that a football match doesn't.
Growing up in Yorkshire, it was mainly rugby league and cricket with football in for good measure. I always preferred cricket too and would frequently go to Headingley and Scarborough to watch the tykes. Went to Emirates a few weeks back to watch Sri Lanka vs West Indies and thought that was a cracking place too. It needs to regain its test status ASAP. That was a crazy decision!
Rafa I still believe that was engineered by the ECB. They were organising 8 franchises for this new competition which is to be played at test grounds. The fact that Chester-le-street was a test ground was making it "awkward" for them to decide where these franchises would be based so the easy solution is to remove test status from CLS and the rest follows on. The franchises are based at Lords, The Oval, Rose bowl, Sophia Gardens, Edgebaston, Trent Bridge, Headingly and Old Trafford. ECB are absolute w**kers
Oh a post slating the ECB!! Can I assist!! Disgraceful decision. They put 2 matches on a few days apart at Headingley and then Durham. Headingley sold out and Durham didn’t. It cost Durham a fortune in lost income and I have little doubt that it was engineered. Had both games sold out it was close to the amount Durham needed which the ECB fined and relegated us for. Utterly shocking and totally planned by the ECB. Meticulously imo
