Our season tickets are in SAR block B, but had been sold by the time I bought our cup tickets so we wound up in block A. Not far away, but a very different crowd, most of whom would probably be in the corners of Ellerslie normally. Yes, they sang quite a bit, but it was mostly moronic stuff about dirty Northerners. To be fair, many of them were kids, but to see 15 year-olds singing 'we pay your benefits' to the Wednesday fans was quite pathetic. Giving support to your team is fine and good, but there wasn't much of that at all, it was predominately abuse towards the opposition fans. Add to this the people, not kids, who steadfastly refused to sit down - thereby blocking the view of those behind - and it was a thoroughly dispiriting experience. What got to me, reading back through the thread, was the level of negativity, starting even before the match had kicked off. I don't understand the signing of Clarke, but, as we have him, last night seemed the right time to play him. As it turned out, he was poor though, and rightly subbed for BOS (I'd have done it at half-time, in fact), but overall it was a pretty strong starting line-up. I agree that where Eze was asked to play was baffling, but that wasn't apparent before the game. I'm sure much of the criticism on here was justified, but after a pretty horrible experience at LR, the unrelenting negativity just pissed me off further, I'm afraid.
There are some morons at games, no doubt. My main point is that Clarke could have started against Blackburn and that we should have picked our strongest side for this game. I also don't understand the signing of Clarke and fear it must be part of a Spurs/Eze deal.
Disappointing result, almost typical that we score a goal when the game was dead and buried. Jack Clarke looked rusty, can't see what Pugh offers, Lumley was dreadful and Kane sub par. Don't lose the faith with Warbs, this is a long term project and we're ahead of where we could have been IMO. Positives were Masterson (although let's not get too carried away) and BOS when he came on.
Kane getting a lot of stick on here but his performance was perhaps related to having Clarke in front of him rather than the harder working BOS who he has a great rapport with. Like most I am baffled by us having Clarke. To quote our manager "I will only bring players in that improve on what we already have".
I'm losing a little faith in Warbs because he seems unable to stop tinkering and failed to recognise Masterson's potential and nearly put him out on loan. He also plays Eze anywhere but his best position.
He's always said that masterson was with a view to next season....I don't have a problem with that.....maybe he's progressed quicker than anticipated and so gets his chance earlier.... Maybe Clarke needs games as he's hardly played this season.....last night wasn't great but he must have something about him...
Kane was at fault for the first goal along with others, but it was Kane's pass from a way back that found Hugill free and bang in front of the goal, which he should have equalised from, but stubbed it wide. It was our best chance of the match other the one their Keeper presented to Wells at the end.
See my last post in the Random QPR thread.... https://www.not606.com/threads/random-qpr-stuff.377201/page-4#post-13524246
I dont think either Manning or Kane are good defensive backs, I prefer Angel and Wallace if they are fit. But Kane does at least seem to be improving slightly, he did make one or 2 good clearances last night. Manning looks to be getting worse and worse, he made countless errors last night including many wayward crosses and passes that used to be his main strength.
He seemed a bit nervous and unsure rather than disinterested...I agree we need to give him more than a game. Typical qpr though reel you in one week and back to earth with a bang the next...personally I'm happier that was a cup game rather than league but there you go
Ultimately if we go and beat Blackburn it will be forgotten quickly. Get beat there and he just looks like a gormless ****.
But this misses the point. Yes give Clarke games if he needs them, but don't do it last night when we should have played our strongest line up. Geez!!
The next couple of league games if it's felt he needs games. Personally I wouldn't start him ahead of BOS ever, unless BOS is injured or in desperate need of a rest. My point is we are safe in mid-table. Give the fans some excitement and try to go on a cup run.
