Just watched Charlton beat Billy Bremner's Hull 3-1 on The Big Match Revisited. It was the 1976/77 season and Derek Hales scored a hat-trick. I was amused to see advertising hoardings sponsored by the likes of Grundig, Rumbelows, FADS and Alka-Seltzer. One question: where did the away fans go back then? I wasn't born for another two years, so I'm unsure as to the The Valley's layout in those days.
Think the same as now if I remember but they more or less could just wander around the ground or if it was Millwall they could chase us round the whole ground
I think that was before segregation, although for that particular game I've got a feeling the Leeds fans were in the Jimmy Seed stand. I started following Charlton the season before. First game Charlton 0 QPR 3. Stan Bowles scored for QPR.
From what I could see there didn't seem to be any segregation, as the Charlton fans were congregated in all areas of the ground.
Stumbled on a real gem last night. One of those quality programmes you only find when broadcasters are getting short of material. A 90 min documentary about the life of Larry Grayson. Older members like @AllHellLetLoose and @The Penguin will remember Larry. I hadn’t realised that he died relatively young - only 71...and from the effects of a burst appendix.
According to a highly respected clairvoyant, my grandad lives next door to Frankie Howerd in the next life. They are great friends and regularly meet up for drinks and games of snooker. True story.
