I don't know if it's just me but I am getting pretty ragged off with the on-going callous media reporting of the number of deaths and new cases every day. It comes over like reading out the football scores on a Saturday tea time and pisses me off no end. It's all so bloody clinical and casual, with no mention of the fact that for every statistic there is a family or a loved one somewhere breaking their heart. I even read today that "Spain has overtaken Italy in the number of deaths, but the USA leads everyone" ..... It's not a ****ing race you morons. I know we live in modern times with very distorted values but everything these days is reduced down to a cold statistic or it has to have a monetary value attached to it. What happened to real life, where every person really mattered and it wasn't just relatives that mourned the loss of a family member? I understand the media have a job to do but these days everything is so 'matter of fact' and 'instant'. Sorry if I'm being morose but people are important and I hate all this media driven score card ****e.
Sorry to hear this mate... I hope beyond hope it doesn't impact her too much. I just wish the government had acted more quickly. Without wanting to talk about politics again, they were very slow to realise the seriousness of the outbreak.
Right there Kaits, I've taken a step back from the relentless reporting, preferring 6music or our own selection and blasting it loud. We'll be out for a bike ride tomorrow, allowed here, heading along the canals toward Delft.
I'd imagine nearly everyone knows someone that is affected by the pandemic, whether it's by the virus itself or the knock on effect of hospitals and staff being overrun meaning other conditions aren't being treated. My Father-in-law has a skin cancer next to his nose - he won't be getting that treated for several months probably. No idea if it is localised or has metastasized as he was due for a biopsy when all this kicked off which was subsequently cancelled. We will just have to keep fingers crossed though as there's nothing we can do to change the current situation. My 82 year old mum should've had one hip replaced in February but that is on hold now. Problem of course is that now her other hip is also on the way out after a couple of years of compensating for the bad one and no idea when she will be able to have one or both done. She's in a lot of pain which she has no medication for so am helping her out on that side of things but it's certainly a testing time.
It's only the CV figures that are endlessly quoted. I suppose this and the postponed and canceled procedures won't go down on the CV damage list.
Now feels like a good time to say: We will get through this guys! The human race has come through worse challenges and survived. Today feels like emotions are getting to everyone, but I am thankful to this little community for having a good space to chat about things. I sincerely hope everyone's loved ones stay safe and get the care they need.
And I was going to add, you and Schad were seemingly the voices of reason. Seeing the pending doom before time.
looking at StJabbo’s reply earlier, i presume it was posted by Piers Moron. Is this another case of fake news on social media? It is really pissing me off that people can put whatever **** they want on the internet and it is immediately believed because it is on the internet.
