Only joshing a bit @Dick Plumb1 I heard a rumour that most remainers have a good sense of humour. Point is of course, remainers on the whole are not gun-toting, bearded rebs with swastikas tattooed on their arses. And contrary to popular opinion, only one or two leavers are.
Extreme means doesn’t necessarily mean drawing guns. The bookends on both sides - Trumpites & Uber Remainers, were willing to do almost anything to thwart democracy. Alistair Campbell. Gina Miller. Etc etc. Presumably you are more comfortable on ITTV, where people’s families get insulted and threatened.
TRumpites have been radicalised by lies. Remain was a perfectly reasonable position to take. We will see soon enough who was lying during the campaign. I don't know why you are defending your silly comparison. Each to their own I suppose.
Its not a silly comparison - it’s just one that you disagree with Yet another day and another example why all non football related threads on this site should be locked @lardiman
I did A level politics 35 years ago. Looking at this site most days, and the puerile level of the debate, it’s a reminder that they were Glory Days in comparison.
I think everyone needs to calm down a bit. There is no evidence that Trump supporters are white-supremacist - that defines as someone who wishes the subjugation of non-whites. There is no evidence that Trump wants to do this or that his supporters do. The MAGA policy has done good for the US economy in terms of the national economy - I learned last week that one major ongoing issue is that Trump has demanded that defaulted Chinese bond debt be offset against money owed to China. The US is now self-sufficient in oil production and there are other positive results of his presidency. Against that he has undone al the goodwill he generated by his refusal to concede defeat. As more qualified commentators than me noted, it's not enough to believe or even know that the election result was rigged - that means nothing without the evidence to prove it in Court. It was clear a while ago that the evidence simply was not there, and that should have been the end of it. Biden has a lot to do to reunite the USA and I am not sure he has the ability to do it. He seems to have declining mental powers and there are a lot of questions being asked about the extent of his involvement in his son's business arrangements. I believe that the elevation of Kamala Harris to President would not bode well. We should rmember that it's their business and we have more than enough to do here to keep our own house in order.
My final word on this subject & on this thread. Of course the US Election wasn’t stolen - Biden polled 78m votes and won it by a mile. Trump was incompetent and as I said months ago, deserved to lose. Had I been a US voter I would have voted Biden...just to get rid of Trump. Whether Biden has the capabilities to serve his full term must be doubtful. I would point out the double standards however. In the US “the people have spoken, the results must be respected, the baddie has lost. In the U.K. “the people have spoken, we have lost, but we still know better, because we are morally superior”. @lardiman i would encourage you to close these threads.
I’m sure you have been busy commiserating with him in DMs. I think you should stick to debating with like minded individuals from now on. I’m out.
As a matter of fact I advised him to do what I did for a while until recently, to stop opening the non-football threads. Simple advice, I did not mention you or any other poster, which I should have stuck to myself.
Some Trump supporters certainly are white supremacists. The Proud Boys. The crowds at Trump rallies attacking two non-white members of Congress by repeatedly chanting "Send them back". Granted, most moderate Trump supporters aren't white supremacists. But some of his more radical fans undoubtedly are.
I respect your opinion on this matter @The Punter’s Pal but I won't be closing any non-football threads. I might merge threads occasionally if several crop up on the same subject. But that aside, the only reasons I'll lock or delete a thread is if A) it breaches what I believe to be minimum standards of decency, respect or tolerance (racial, religious or the like), or B) if it promotes the following specific subjects - Covid denial and/or Anti-vacc. With a small number of members as we have, I believe it's best for members to feel free to discuss any subjects they wish beyond the football ones.
President Elect Joe Biden speaks plainly about what happened yesterday... There is a deep-rooted, long standing decline in the trust and faith many Americans place in their political leaders. That needs to be addressed somehow. But the assault on Capitol Hill was not purely a manifestation of that. The accusations of President Trump are false. They are lies without a shred of evidence. He has lied and lied and lied about the Election. Practically every time he opens his mouth. More than 60 times his people have had the opportunity to show evidence to courts. Nothing has ever appeared. Trump is blatantly deceiving the American People. A betrayal of the followers who believe him as much as a betrayal of everybody else. An almost inconceivable plunge from the standards of honesty, humility and dignity expected of the President. Some might think Biden should be careful with his words, as condemnation too strong might elicit some sympathy for the rioters. I disagree. The magnitude of that those rioters did is simply too great. The affront to order and peace and democracy simply too grave. Their anger may have built up gradually over decades. But that anger has been cynically manipulated by one man who knew exactly what he was doing. He has sold them a lie and made them his puppets. His mindless shock-troops. There was no fraud or vote rigging. The Election was free and fair. Every sane and sensible person knows that. The evidence for that truth is massive and overwhelming. It would take a lifetime to list it all. The Steal is a 100% baseless falsehood. A giant lie. You cannot liberate your country or save it or launch a revolution based on such an obvious and unsupportable lie. This is not 1776 all over again. And the opponents of the giant lie cannot and must not begin to tolerate it or grudgingly accept it, even a little. A lie repeated a million times is still a lie.
