The jabs do seem to be working. From what I can gather anyway. Unless anyone has a better way to deal with this, then do we have any other choice than to embrace it and hope it is the answer?
I agree entirely and hope so .. but a lot of parents will not have been jabbed , so if we see a very large spike in cases (not talking hospitals or deaths) then am I wrong to think that schools were not as harmless as we were led to believe ? Like I say I fully expect to be proved wrong as its just a theory that I have had since early days with no scientific fact to back it up ... yes we know younger people do not get as ill .. but the case numbers alone will tell us a story I think ... my theory is if schools and universities did not open face to face in September then the tragedy maybe would have been less ... as I say unproven and hope Im wrong and we shall see as if case numbers rocket up .. then we know education as a setting is not as safe as was said and so questions need to be asked as to why they went back last year
The usual metric is positive tests rather than cases, and those are liable to show an increase, as there are liable to be more people tested as the kids go back to school. It's not really significant of anything. At the end of the day, there's plenty to question on the measures put in place, and the numbers bandied around by 'expert' groups, who have a very narrow remit compared to those tasked with actually making decisions, but they've gone all in with the vaccine, and they'll make sure the numbers fit what's required to open up society again as near as possible to the dates given.
The amount of tests kids are having to do it's a given case numbers are going to go up, even PHE people have expressed worries they might actually be more false positives than actual real cases. One thing you are forgetting though is were heading into spring and numbers over all categories are plummeting just as covid all but disappeared over last summer, for me the test is how we react next autumn.
Very true , but if the number of positive tests go up by such a rate that cannot be ignored , does that not prove that schools and schoolchildren (who are more likely to be asymptomatic that anything else) were actually hotbeds of the infection rate increasing all the time ? ... As you say they have gone all in vaccine vs everything else in a race ... but if it does go like this then part of their science and advice will have been proved to be fundamentally wrong due to schoolchildren being carriers and the fact hundreds of kinds then mix with hundreds multiplied by whatever for their families etc so by that fact schools were simply not safe at all ... If not anything else a lesson to be learned for when we do hit next autumn/winter
Definition of safe... The lockdown aims are to reduce pressure on the NHS. If in the coming weeks 80% of Infections are in the under 24s will there be the same level of pressure on the vulnerable?
We keep hearing Sweden has managed things better than us. Their schools have remained open. As they have in France.
That's because every other country is better than ours. Every Town or City is better than Hull. We get what you preach every day mate. Every ****ing day.
Missing the point completely. We keep hearing from people how badly Boris has handled it and how other countries have done things better. Then we have people saying that going back to school will be a disaster with schools being superspreaders. Yet the countries they say have been doing things better have kept schools open. They can't have it both ways. They are the people doing this country down, not me. Sweden kept schools open, neighbouring Finland didn't, yet there is hardly any difference in infection rates, Sweden been slightly better. So why are people so against a return to schools in this country?
Just a side note. Sweden and France threw money at their schools to install outdoor hand washing areas as just one example. They also maintained the socially distanced desks and outdoor play areas. Here, we’ve opened some windows. Our youngest children didn’t have much in the way of social distancing because they were said to be too young to understand. Our media puts out false information like “schools are closed” or they film classrooms with 4-5 kids in them when nearly all classrooms actually have 25+. Or, like today, put out images like this (The Times): There won’t be a single classroom in the country with this level of distancing in place. Kids will be sat shoulder-to-shoulder, without screens and desks lined up together.
I think Australia and New Zealand and South Korea may disagree on that. They’ve managed to keep case numbers right down and their economies going by a “fast and hard” approach to lockdown, as well as border control. It shows both virus control and support for the economy can be done if the will is there. We went for “keep the numbers to a point the NHS can still cope” and just about got away with it, but that doesn’t acknowledge the human cost of the 125k dead. It seems clear in retrospect that it isn’t a choice of economy vs disease spread. You can keep the economy going if everyone has confidence that your staff and customers and public are well and virus free. Which we will eventually get to with the vaccination program. The countries mentioned above did it another way.
Cowed population. Willing to report anyone who doesn’t follow the rules. Can do anything with them now, Hitler or Stalin would be pleased with this situation.
There's now liable to be a surge in the other ailments kids normally develop immunity to due to social interactions. Being squirreled away leaves them vulnerable to these things now.
Conversely there may be an actual drop in Chicken Pox and Measles. The lockdown also shields against these two.
Judging by the way our adults ignore the handwashing and sanitation facilities at supermarket entrances, and did the same at the pubs when they were open, I wouldn't rate the chances of kids being scrupulous in these matters. And plenty of those adults would be saying no one should tell their little darlings what to do. If France kids wear masks in school. However that would, we are told, be too stressful for ours. Whether they do any good is, of course, another debate.
