Pleased for AoB to get the winner today, his goal celebration was mint once he'd explained it after the match. Others have mentioned he's been a miss especially for Wyke, he certainly puts the work in so well done him.
He is definitely Leadbitters legs. Leadbitter gave us some control when he came on. Winchester though, in my opinion, is playing a game that we really need. When we havent got the ball he is in the best position in midfield to block the best passing angles for them. That is something coaches spend a lot of time on and he is excellent at it. I think he can go up the levels us with easily because technically he is good. Clearly he is an LJ signing and more like him would be great. The clean sheets we are keeping are exceptional. The partnership of O'Nien and Sanderson is excellent, as is burge, and the intelligent work of Winchester is excellent too.
tell you what though, is it not strange that so many players are now getting praised, compared to earlier in the season? even LJ said winchester might not appear to be the player we need but as he grows into the team the fans will start to see the best of him...a little bit like m'villa, people were saying he did 'not do enough' to warrant being in the team but he was excellent at blocking the routes for passing and just basically being in the right place, sometimes you need to look for the work done off the ball, like o'brien, then you can appreciate players more. so joey whines about officials...it was never, ever going to be a penalty that joey, onien had his eyes on the ball at all times and the attacker came in on his blind side, if you wanna split hairs then onien should not have got that yellow card, he tackled and got the ball, did not 'leap' into the tackle and was not agressive in any way, there was also mention of an elbow on gooch and by the rules, a raised arm is a sending off...swings and roundabouts joey lad and we have been on the **** end of decisions for 3 seasons now, all your whining onto officials won't change that pal.
Great post. I do see the similarity with Winchester and Mvilla, although clearly there is a class gulf. Someone screening the angles like they do make a huge difference. The higher up the levels you go the less tackling wins the ball back and the more it is about interceptions.
I was surprised at how many were getting their knickers in a twist because Peterborough and Hull were winning at half time, with tweets like why can’t we be winning convincingly like that at half time. Peterborough had a great win today but, last Saturday they were winning and then needed a last minute penalty to draw, they then lost on Tuesday. Hull drew last Saturday and today. It’s always fab when a rival slips up obviously it is, because it helps, but, what they do is out of our control so, let’s concentrate on us
Their record against the better teams is poor. Their commentator is talking shyte. "They seem to raise their game against the better sides in this league and with Joey Barton as well, this game definitely has a bit of edge. Can see a disappointing 1-1 draw, with them getting an early goal and clinging on for dear life. Similar to us against them at the start of the season." They don't. Since Barton took charge they've been beaten by Charlton, with a caretaker manager, and Hull, now Sunderland .... "Hull City moved top of League One with a professional victory at home against struggling Bristol Rovers. The visitors - now in the relegation zone - never laid a glove on in-form City, who eased to a third win on the bounce with two goals from Gavin Whyte." Since November they've been beaten twice by Oxford also Charlton, Gillingham, Peterborough, Hull. The only 'better side' they've beaten is Portsmouth who's manager was off work with Covid. Third division biased commentators aren't known for their clarity of thought tbh ... .... Frankie is the proof.
You must be delighted we won After all, it was the toughest game of our season according to you ... ... Peterborough and Hull away should be easy.
Over the moon we won today. I was worried about another draw. Once one comes, then two can quickly come. Sets up nicely for Easter.
