Come from Blackburn........ The team who signed Danny Graham before our second go at getting it wrong... He’ll be back next season!!
I just mean in terms of the club having a recruitment plan... other than buy any league one player going cheap.
Going to be interesting to see who we sign in the summer. Blackburn seemed to put a lot into their recruitment team a couple of years ago but they are all leaving. According to their fans Mowbray has been ignoring recommendations and signing who he fancies. Mainly ex Boro players and Boro academy rejects.
It's another step in our rebuilding under KLD. We continue to assemble what seems to be a best in class team to get us going forward. We've been told this is not a quick fix project....so,I would hope the genuine fans among us will give it the time it deserves. I'm sure that we're recruiting the best people available, with the skills we require. We're definately not scrimping and making do! Never a dull moment with this club!
I think at our level and maybe the Championship, you can brute force good, or at least better than average, recruitment with a bit of organisation and attention to detail. We should be keeping tabs on at least half a dozen players for each position across several age ranges, to give a coach plenty of options. Do we want a prospect on loan for a year, a player to develop for ourselves, or an old stager who we could get a last year or two out of? The last regime summed it up when Grigg was the only option on deadline day.
Agreed - by the sounds of the make up of speakman and this guy this sounds like the plan - its refreshing to hear SAFC set themselves up in this way. However the fans need to realise we wont be just throwing millions around. We need to build solid foundations to enable us to reap the benefits of having proper plans in place especially in recruitment where recently our tactic seems to have been throwing chod at the wall and signing whatever sticks!
I'm not expecting a team of marquee signings, far from it, but if we don't spend solidly then we're probably looking at more seasons in league one which I doubt Dreyfus will be keen on. I imagine there will be a lot of players leaving at the end of the season who obviously will need replacing and the under 23s don't seem to be packed with quality either if they can't get on the bench for us. I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing a step up in quality in our signings thanks to the new team and maybe a couple of Sanderson type gems.
To be honest i'll be happy if we start sourcing good players with potential who have a resale value or players who will develop with us as we hopefully move back up through the leagues - Sanderson would fit into this bracket (if we get promoted) as I can see him playing in the championship next year and then into the premier league - if we can get promoted he would be the first on my list. To be clear we have to move away from the utter dross we've picked up in the last few seasons - as far as i'm concerned i never want to see us pick up players like macfadzean just because they are cheap or we are desperate - Hopefully this lad has already been working on a plan for us ( one if we are promoted and one if we dont).
Definitely. He's going to have to work harder than Esther Rantzen's toothbrush over the next 2-3 months to get us ready and able for the new season.
