If he said it when he was still employed by the club then fair play, maybe he should have said it louder?. If he said it when he wasn't employed by the club it is an excuse, nothing more nothing less.
Read it through.. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...kCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar
I can’t see a transfer not going ahead just because LJ didn’t want it to happen. As a head coach I find it unlikely he’d be keen to sell his best players either.
I read it and what am I supposed to deduct from that?. That as a club we should have turned down 20mil for a player that we had signed for much less a year earlier? or offer him 6 times the wages that Brighton were offering him to keep him? I cannot see what else could have been done under the circumstances, I suspect the problem was the club not speculating on the fact that they would eventually get their price for Webster and instead of bringing in the players needed, they ended up bringing in players that were still available, once more evidence of a dysfunctional transfer policy.
You are missing my point, if he didn't agree why not say so? why publicly perpetuate the myth that he and or Holden were in charge of all transfers. The dynamic has changed with the ridiculous wages being paid even at our level, if an offer comes in and the player wants to go 9 times out of 10 the player goes, regardless of the length of contract signed.
I think it was more the case, that he picked from what was offered by Ashton...which IMO is different to picking from the main....
As my previous post I think that related to incoming, obviously outgoing are driven by offers made, players feelings etc, managers have to be accepting that often outgoing transfers are out of their control.
Again not the public line from LJ, Holden and Ashton and if you are correct it shows a totally dysfunctional way of running a 'professional' football club. My point was the article stated that because the accepted offer for Webster was late in the window, any list of potential signings would almost certainly be down to the barrel scrapers, perhaps they should have speculated on getting our price eventually and signing players earlier and higher up the list.
It's an undisputed FACT that we failed to replace key players that were sold. It's an 'informed' and pretty fair assumption, that whatever one's opinion is of LJ is, he wouldn't have been happy with it - no manager would. What manager worth their salt would argue in favour of unloading SUCCESSIVE team captains and key players without a replacement coming in? He may have had the 'final say' and possibly said to Ashton something like; 'I don't like it...' but it happened anyway. As for not making this possible disagreement public at the time; anyone who has ever worked in a management position knows that you can disagree furiously with a board decision, but once you leave that boardroom you have to sell it (whatever 'it' is) to your staff and/or customers no matter how much you might be personally against it. If course it's equally possible that LJ said to Ashton; 'Please sell my team captains and don't replace them - I don't need them anyway - I just made them captain at random - they have no specific influence on the team....', in which case RP and Wiz were justified all along with their dislike of LJ and he would be exposed as simply an incompetent fraud.
You mean use the money from the sale of Webster before we had it?, we’d be in a pickle then if the sale didn’t go through.
That’s not the point, we are all agreed we didn’t use the money well, but to spend money before we have it really is a recipe for disaster.
I get that I really do but hey sometimes in life perhaps you should trust in your talent and either test the water with whether or not the club really want you to improve them or just want you to be another poodle, going with the highlighted scenario LJ must have known that that route would only end one way, with him and not Ashton carrying the can and because he publicly went along with it so it was self inflicted, personally I don't want another manager like that or a club run in that way, the only thing I expect from a CEO, is 1. can we afford this and 2. get on with the negotiations. This is a football club and should be run like one, a clear indication that SL is a good business man but still a novice as a football club owner. Football clubs should be run in a way where if the playing side fails, the manager and some of the players carry the can, not have a situation where a CEO may or may not have the real cause for a dysfunctional transfer system.
Another of Ashtons rats rejoin him at Ipswich https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town...ead-of-sports-science-costin-set-to-join-town
Yep, he incompetently kept us in the second tier throughout his tenure. Something very few managers have achieved in the 127 years our club has been in existence!
