Honestly, from what I've seen, which admittedly isn't much, we would be better off keeping the players we already have. Eaves needs replacing, there is that, but I think we could make a good fist of it next season, as we are. My worry is all about players going out.
I would really like to see a striker with blistering pace sign for us. Seams to really help in the champ
Assuming Alfie will be first-choice CB alongside Greaves, I think we need another defensive mid. Smallwood is alright but Blackburn fans seem to think he’s out of his depth at Championship level and the jury is out on whether Slater is good enough for that level too.
He's got over 200 Championship appearances, I wouldn't say he was out of his depth. That sort of experience is vital to a young team like ours. Corry Evans is available on a free transfer, he might be an option but I'd still take Mowatt for that role.
He's still fairly young and he was playing in a pretty crap Plymouth team. Josh Magennis went 16 without a goal in our last Championship season, he managed to improve in a much better team. Jephcott is a different type of forward to the two target men we currently play with, I reckon he'd be worth a go if the price was right.
(Putting tin hat on) and I know it’s all about our budget or what we think our budget is. All I seem to have read is suggestions of l1 and l2 players, it may well be that some on here have a better knowledge of players than me but the season we got relegated the majority on here all thought “if you fill your team with l1 players then you’ll end up in l1. Some are now getting excited by the thought of signing these free l1 players for the championship. We now have a squad of players which consisted of untested championship players and failed championship players. Admittedly like Terry they probably deserve a chance but we need to be signing championship proven players incase they fail. I know it’s budget related and it’s only early but I currently see a tough season ahead
If we sign the best L1 & L2 players then we’ll be better off than signing mediocre free Championship players, like Toral.
Don't need Blackburn fans to tell you that. He was out of his depth at L1. Caught out far too often...
We can't afford proven Championship players on the budget we are on. We have to gamble on lower league players and hope that our recruitment team can continue to find gems. Some of the L1 players we've targeted have left their clubs because their clubs can't afford to keep them and either they want a bigger contract or they want to play at a higher level and are taking a chance. For what it's worth, I think Doc, Honeyman, Ingram, KLP and Magennis will be alright. Elder seems to have improved, as has Wilks (though I think he might find his style of play a little limited, he gets caught on the ball a fair bit and that can cost us). I don't think it'll be relegation, I think we'll just go steady and finish bottom of the middle pack.
