Ah well, I'm way off. I did think they still brewed it in the UK but wiki reckons it went to Tadcaster from Dunston in 2010 then off to Holland under Heineken in 2017.
Awful website from Maxim if this is the proper site... http://www.maximbeer.co.uk/ Looks horrific on a mobile. I was just checking what they still make from the old Vaux days. Why isn't any of this available in the shops?
Maximus and double maxim are available in some supermarkets (morrisons, Tesco and co-op) that I know of
Seen those (a bit scared of Maximus tbh). Was hoping for lambtons and a bit of Scorpion as well though. Especially in the NE supermarkets. Hopefully we may get some in the ground next season.
My young un lives down south and can't get any of it down there so whenever I visit I take a couple of crates down but I mix the odd bottle of maximus with the double maxim its like a p*ss heads advent calendar
Anything to do with ( they tried it here at one time) the “ does the head count as part of the pint” debate. So if the full glass was exactly a pint , it had to be all beer. Then there was an oversize glass with a line near top which indicated a pint of liquid , with room above for those who liked a head
same here marra, I just bent her ower the scullery chebble and did her up the 'WRANGUN'...... loved it!!
brill that mate, problem is you painted so good a mind picture, its vivid now and keeps coming back in flashes.
drank the nukie once... my first 'real night out' with workmates, 16 year old and wanting to be one of the boys, think me and my marra hit 9 bottles and all i can remember of getting home was pewking all over the front of the bus as i stood up to get off, apparently i pebble dashed the bogs at pensha club as well. never again, after that i got into my snakebites and never drank owt else.
I visited Atlanta in Georgia a few years back for a few days and found the local beers to be nasty piss, they really were awful, just gassy ****e. I found a few bars down Peachtree and they all sold Newcastle Brown Ale in small bottles. There wasn't a single barmaid that knew how to pour beer into a glass, it's normal for your server to pour your beer for you, they work for tips so it's part of the service. I asked them if I could show then how we poured our beer this side of the watta and they soon picked it up. By the time I went home I was served a perfect glass of beer with a proper head on it. Still prefer Vaux lol. Double Maxim used to knock the **** out of me.
Early memory of Maxim: when I was 7 and we visited me gramma in Jarrow, all the adults would go to the Robin Hood leaving me gramma to mind me. They always brought her a bottle of Maxim back. I was fascinated by the machine gun on the label, and couldn’t wait to be old enough to drink the stuff, just because of the label.
I worked for Newcastle Breweries for 20 years covering the 70’s and 80’s. Very rarely touched the stuff but used to see some sights. I always preferred the lighter stuff McEwans lager and such. At that time ‘the dog’ was too heavy for me and not a session drink. Seen it mixed with a few different drinks. One was called a depth charge as it would take you straight out the game and another was a spitfire as you would be running around the car park at closing with your arms wide thinking you were in the ‘Battle of Britain’ Happy days
That's great mate. Loved a pint of Samson - smooth as silk. Very rarely bothered with bottles of dog. Always preferred Exhibition in an S&N Pub.
Aye....same here....we all went on a mad black'n, (an all mornin, aftrenoon and night sesh ) in the late 70's...Newcy Brown all the way. Felt a bit crook on the Sunday morning.... back on the lash at 2pm....ordered a Newcy Brown...took one sip.... Spewed my f*ckin ring up all day and night. Can't stand the smell of the stuff now.....ha ha ha !.....kids belly !
