Funny that. Marco and Gatesy played in EXACTLY the same division and couldn’t get 30! It absolutely amazes me how thick some of our “fans” are
Wyke couldn't even lace Marcos boots. He was a quality player that played at the highest level and scored goals for every club he played for. Wyke has had one really good season in his career and i thank him for that but please dont mention him and Marco in the same sentence again
Wyke making brilliant runs…… impressive given he’s constantly on his heels and gets beaten to most balls
For someone so ****e, we all know what’s coming next week. Regardless though, my opinion stays the same. Absolutely donkey.
Someone from Wigan stated they had this winger ready to sling balls into the box for Wyke to get on the end of.....is he injured
Be intersting to have your views on what constitutes a good striker. Obviously you will take into account the League we are in and the fee paid. But, in order to be fair, I'll give you MY definition of a good striker. A player who scores GOALS. Don't care how, just as long as the ball crosses the line. On my side I have Brian Clough, someone who claimed to know a bit about the position. He said that he didn'r care how he got them in, off his backside if he could, as long as they went in, he'd done his job.
Think Charley would agree, but I dont think thats the point. In his defence Brian was one of the all time great strikers, would have liked to hear his opinion of Wyke.
I think clough would’ve been very happy with him last season. that said, if he’d played for clough the previous 2 seasons (or just one of them) chances attempt he wouldn’t have been at the club to score the 30!
He wont get them next season so I stand by my ranking of him, average of what 11 league goals a season for 3 seasons in the 3rd division, I am happy another club is paying his over inflated salary
Well, you've got me there. I didn't study Divination, at school, so have no skills at fortune telling. In fact I'm so bad at it that there is no way that I'd have predicted, at this time last Season, that he would be as prolific as he was. But you didn't tell me what you feel constitues a good striker.
Glad you are interested. Good ball control, good shot, ability to hold the ball up, the ability to turn, decent in the air, anticipation and goals pace also helps an awful lot BTW you dont need divination to know he wont do it again, just use your eyes
Didn't Nicklas Bendtner say something like that he had all the abilities of a world class striker, he just needed to add scoring some more goals? Having said that, I liked Bendtner when he played for us.
Bendtner was decent for us, linked up well with Sessegnon. Drifted wide and deep too often playing as the main striker but he had bags of ability.
Actually in 7 of the last 17 seasons the L1 top scorer hasn't been promoted, including strikers who have scored 27, 29, 29, and 30 league goals, so it is hardly a rare thing. In Wigan's 2015-16 promotion season Grigg top scored with 25 league goals. Grigg scored 5 championship goals the next season and 19 L1 goals the season after. Prior to his 25 goal season he scored 20 L1 goals for MK Dons and during his career he has scored 19 or more L1 goals in four seasons. Wyke scored 26 league goals last season but in his entire career he has reached double figures in only four seasons - L2 2015/16 he scored 12 goals & L2 2016/17 he scored 14 goals then in L1 2017/18 he scored 15 goals and 26 L1 goals last season During his entire L1 career Wyke has scored 7, 15, 4, 5 & 26 goals. During his entire L1 career Grigg has scored 4, 4, 19, 4, 20, 25, 19, 4, 1, 0 & 8 goals NB Grigg is only about 18 months older than Wyke so it isn't as though Wyke has much less of a career behind him. I wouldn't even call Wyke an established L1 goal scorer and he certainly hasn't scored 30 L1 goals in a season so he doesn't deserve that moniker!
