Max let him through. Also, Hamilton then ran him off the road...surely that's a 5 second penalty in your eyes? A public flogging, perhaps?
Verstappen brake tested him. He did it before the message came through. He could get in hot water for that.
Not that. The latest overtake. And he didn't 'brake check' him, that's absolute nonsense. He just assumed that Hamilton was aware that they were swapping places, but no one had told Hamilton. Not Hamilton's fault either, it appears to be poor communication between race control and Mercedes.
What an incredible race. Not sure why Max had to give a place back whilst also being given a five second penalty. Michael Masi lost the plot a bit there. Still, WHAT a finale we are going to have.
Verstappen is summoned to the stewards for an alleged breach of Breach of Article 2 (d) Chapter IV Appendix L of the FIA International Sporting Code. This says: "Causing a collision. Repetition of serious mistakes or the appearance of a lack of control over the car (such as leaving the track) will be reported to the Stewards and may entail the imposition of penalties up to and including the exclusion of any driver concerned."
I hope he doesn't get DQ'd or anything dramatic. I don't think he will, but I can see a grid penalty for next week.
If he's found guilty of causing a collision I can't see anything less than a 10 place grid penalty. It will pretty much ruin next week for drama though.
I still really struggle to see how he could be guilty of causing a collision. His engineer told him to give the place back, and so he slowed. And kept slowing, because Hamilton wasn't going around him. And then Hamilton ran into the back of his car. Verstappen had no way of knowing that Mercedes had not communicated the decision to Hamilton. That's hardly his fault. Only one driver actually caused a collision there, and it wasn't Verstappen...it was the guy who ran into the back of him. But Hamilton isn't in the wrong either, because he had no idea what was happening. Race control is at fault, not the drivers.
