But evidently the result, despite what Shota claimed in pre match, wasn’t important to him as Tufan was probably our best player of the half and he kept on all the strugglers the entire game.
Playing Tufan at all was odd considering he’s not managed more than 60 minutes yet and was clearly off the pace in pre season. You would think he would have taken the chance to give him a rest until he can manage 90 minutes every Saturday.
I had my doubts about his ability to play deeper but he certainly proved me wrong tonight. We lost all quality on the ball in the middle when he went off
Just watched the "highlights" back. Has anyone mentioned the miss from Oscar at the end? Finally got a decent ball to attack but blazed it high and wide when it looked easier to score. Not going to write the lad off yet but the signs aren't great. Got to be putting those away however "undercooked" you are
You can see why he's won all his international caps playing there. He was the best player on the park by a country mile. Him playing alongside Seri will probably work. He's got that bit of physicality we've missed too. We're probably 2 midfielders short at least though and Adama can't come back soon enough
I think the chance looked easier than it was, his movement and acceleration to get beyond his man was excellent.
Yeah, it was a decent cross by Elder too but it was a bit behind Oscar. I’d be way more concerned if the ball was played in front of him and he ****ed it.
Fig’s miss was worse. Criminal. Didn’t bother to attack the ball and it just bounced off the side of his head. You’ve gotta go for it whether you think the defender will have it or not.
I think tonight’s game proved a few things. Covil isn’t ready for the first-team. I don’t think he’s even ready to go out on loan to League 2 or even National League. Not saying he’s a bad player but every time I’ve seen him play in a competitive game, he’s looked like a boy playing amongst men. There’s a few lads already in the academy who are more developed and ready to make the step up to play men’s football like Snelgrove, Jarvis and Mills. Wilks just isn’t good enough. His first touch is still shockingly poor for a pro, and he constantly plays with his back to his man. On tonight’s showing, I’d pay Sheff Wednesday the 200k to take him. We lack creativity. Barring Tufan, nobody in midfield tonight thought about getting their head up and picking a clever pass. There were moments when Cannon looked composed on the ball and had runners to make a pass to, but he just ignored them completely and made a safe, sidewards pass. I know Cannon isn’t a regular starter, but I thought this against Preston as well. We seem to do this thing where we pass the ball between the three centre-halves a few times before one of them tries a cross-field pass that goes nowhere.
This is spot on. Results have been good in the league, better than most expected, and the atmosphere in the stadium first game was brilliant. But from looking online you'd think we were on a big downward spiral. Weird.
Not bad results, no, sometimes it’s bad results waiting to happen when the performances are a bit below average. Maybe expect too much too soon, but when Al went off Tetteh seemed to be out on the left a lot, even at one point seemed to be at left back. IMO, if you’re making that sub, then you have Tetteh in a more central role & move players to adjust.
I don't see how we can finish the window so light in midfield for numbers as we are. Cannon isn't the answer, leaving Tufan, Seri, Slater and Doc as credible options to cover 3 shirts for another 45 games minimum. Yes, we may have Traore fit by jan and Sinik back in November, but even then it's just not credibly going to happen without additions
Difficult to follow the game with no sound and other issues but especially in the first half though Canon was one of our better players. He made the goal.
I prefer Eaves to the new couple of duck eggs up front. Manager appears clueless. Too many players given a chance but clearly not up to it. Totally fed up with this passing side to side across the back. So much for the attacking football we were promised. Verdict = dog poo.
