Tuchel was scheduled to meet with us before Bayern offered him a deal, so Paratici certainly pushed for him right out of the gate
Alasdair Gold has said that Conte used out U21 team as training cones As in he had U21 players show up for 11vs11 drills, but instructed them to be as static as possible so the first team players could work on their attacking patterns What the actual ****...?
Considering there were two people listed in the previous comment, no Tuchel was the easiest one to arrange a meeting with, though, given he's been spending a lot of time at the Brewdog in Waterloo Station lately
I don't think there is any alternative to watching players many times before signing them but I would go with data above human judgement if possible. Success rate is bound to be low in any case because the seller sees the player in training and so has much more data than the buyer.
Where in my post did I say they had zero value? Every club employs dozens of people to assist in signings. That doesn't mean they are all of equal importance.
Agreed but it is only a recent development that managers come with a massive entourage and I can't see any reason why they should. If the manager needs a bunch of yes men around him he probably isn't a good manager.
Surely that is contradictory unless they start keeping stats of players of training (i highly doubt they do). Then you have the quality of opposition in training. So on the one hand, you would prefer the use of data, which is open to everyone in the market so there are no need for scouts. On the other hand, seeing them in human day to day and not stats driven is a far better assessment than using data. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Whilst zero value wasn't the words to effect that you used, you were responding to spurlocks comment about sending the scouts out to get some data on players nagelsmann wants and responded to them not being that essential in determining transfers. If it's not worth sending them out to view players, what is the point in them? If that isn't what you meant then apologies from my part.
I didn't say there was no need for scouts. Watching players in a match tells you about their skill levels mostly. Seeing them in training allows you to measure their fitness levels, understand their attitude and their willingness to follow instructions and respond to coaching. It's an entirely different set of data which is only available to the seller.
Surely these ones apply in a live match and are even more important. You can see the KMs they've run in a match, whether they are breaking a neck to track back, if they shirk challenges in an important event (not in training), how they encourage/discourage their colleagues and all this in a setting where it matters. I guess we will have to agree to disagree about importance of watching a player live.
I may have read @Spurlock post wrongly but he referred to 'what' Nagelsmann wanted not 'who's. So I thought he wanted the scouts to identify players meeting the requirements not merely watch those already identified. But if the later....what special skills does Nagelsmann have to identify players?
Presumably anyone can compile data, i'm sure Nagelsmann has a view on what data is good or who he may have seen who he likes the look of. It will be then for Levy and the scouts to do their due diligence on Nagelsmann's assessment. At the very least, it's working together (assuming he wants the job) and not having players foisted on him unless he doesn't mind. It's more of a case of using your scouts though to watch the targets you are interested in rather than targets that are of less interest. If we agree that they add value to the process by watching players live (assuming this is the most important aspect), then surely sending them earlier to likely targets of the manager is more important than just sending them out randomly?
How do you tell the difference between a player not tracking back because of poor attitude and one who has been instructed not to for tactical reasons. Players may be recovering from illness or slight injuries, each of which might affect their training and so their apparent fitness in a number of matches. Watching them is important but still leaves you at a disadvantage
