We have signed Taiwo and Onuoha with refreshed rumours that Samba also wants to join (pardon me for being sceptical on that one) but lets say it goes our way and we get him what would our back four look like? Which out of Hill, Orr, Connolly, Big Dan, Young, Hall, Ferdinand, Gabbidon or Traore gets the drop? If you are Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Young or Traore wouldn't you be a bit pissed seing as you were only brought into the squad at the end of the last transfer window? It looks increasingly likely that Hill, Orr, Connolly, Big Dan and One Size will be offski sooner or later. As much as I agree that you can only stay in the Premiership with a rock solid defence I am more than a little concerned over our lack of movement on the new striker front. HH, Betty, DJ, Tommy, Mackie (Hulse?!) etc. are not the calibre to get us up and out of the lower ranks but we don't look to be making moves for a guaranteed 15-20 goal a season striker. Maybe they don't exist or if they do the money required would be far too high a price to pay.
If they are all lucky, they will get signed before the transfer window closes. If not it will be a lonely few months for those players.
I really don't think Traore is a defender tbh I would like to see him left mid and play SWP on the right where he should be really
Only a QPR fan could moan about us making two quality signings. Trust me, the board and the new management team aren't mugs and are well aware of the need to strengthen other areas. Forwards with the ability to score in the prem are hard to come by especially in January. Signing of Taiwo shows papers dont know everything. Eric Walters who is Bobby Zamora's agent was at the game last Saturday so don't write that one off. Feb 1st and no attacking players signed would have been a more suitable time for a post like this but I am confident that won't be necessary
Defender, Defender, Defender. Oh, and Defender. I bet they miss NW right about now I think our Championship boys will be dropped, starting with Orr, Hill, Connoly and Danny - obviously. I think Fitz will survive. And obviously MH thinks that he needs to act like he knows how to coordinate a defense, rather than be labeled as a poor manager who only knows how to manage strikers. As for Onuoha, "He did very well for me at Manchester City and played a number of games, probably more than under any other manager." What a loaded statement. And besides - that was more than 3 years ago, the last time MH said anything to Onuoha on the pitch.
With the ability to keep clean sheets on a regular basis, the odd goal will win games for us. One quality signing in either midfield or up front plus Adel coming back will be enough imo.
Taiwo and Onuoha are massive upgrades on Gabbidon and Traore, really can't complain about these signings. Traore is much better going forward than defending, so MH might well push him on one. Then again, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Hall, Orr, Traore and Young aren't his signings and he might not fancy them at all??
I think we definetely need at least one quality signing central midfield Norway, 2 really. We need more than Barton and Buz there, with only Derry (legs going) and PVM (maybe he's good enough for Lillesstrøm?, but not the PL) as back up. And another quality striker .
Everything is relative Oslo But in a ideal world, then yes two central midfielders would be great. Hope we can land that Diakite lad as he seem to be real quality. If we can add a wide player and a forward to that then i would be over the moon.
Hill will be gone in the Summer, we Have Traore, Taiwo and Young who can play there. I think we can sign Taiwo on a perm too.
Yeh, from the descriptions I seen of Diakite he sounds like the kind of CM we need. Perhaps ideally we need one good holding CM, strong defensively, and one Box to Box locomotive CM , with a good shot. With both Buz and Adel available to create a bit more available, we'll be looking good.
When did I moan about our two new signings? My point was that although a solid defence is a good thing we would only remain around the bottom of the division unless we also sign a proven goal scorer. If we sign Zamora, Johnson, Defoe, Rooney, Ronaldo, Pele etc within the next 5 days then please feel free to come back with an "I told you so" Unless Sparky and Fernandes pull their fingers out by next Tuesday I will stand by the original post.
My back four would be: Onouha Ferdinand Samba Taiwo I know Young is popular and I like him, but I think Onouha is better.
