Arsenal have turned down an initial £30 million bid for Cesc Fabregas - telling the Catalan giants to only come back with a serious bid. An Arsenal source last night confirmed that the offer from the European champions had been rejected. But the source told the Daily Star: âThere was an offer and it has been turned down flat. âThey have been told to come back when they are serious with a proper offer and we will consider it.â Barca have been told to double their offer if they are serious about taking the Gunners' skipper back to his boyhood club. In fact, Arsenal know that £60m is unlikely, but they want to push the Spanish double-winners as close to £45m as possible. Pep Guardiola has publicly announced that signing Fabregas is his main priority this summer. He said: âThe priority is Cesc because he is part of our new project. We canât afford to stand still. But there is only so much money available.â Barca want to offer a part-exchange deal with one of their players moving to the Emirates. But since Arsenal are by no means desperate to sell, they are quite happy to hold out for the cash. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is still determined to keep hold of his captain, but the club know the player is eager to move.
Poor Cesc, now he knows what Barca really think of him. I don't see how offering £30m for one of the best mid-fielders equates to a 'main priority'. Seems more like an 'after-thought' to me.
There's a reasonably good article about this on the Telegraph's site. Basically re-hashing what we've heard for the last 3 years but using bigger-boy words than the Star above! Also insinuating that relationships are souring due to us taking Toral and Miquel from them and our annoyance at them unsettling Cesc. This whole situation is as boring as it gets though and I'm sure every other set of fans are as tired of it as Arsenal are! I'm waiting for the day that they actually get fined for tapping him up. Rosell in particular must be cutting it close to the wire...the f**kt*rd.
Toon fan in peace; but it looks particularly bad on Barca when they make these claims of Cesc being first priority, then make insultingly low bids such as this, while on a second front are talked about being in the bidding for Sanchez who mysteriously is valued at 40m+. For 3 years they've thought they could get him at a cut-rate price because of his history at the club, while in the mean time they continue winning and spending big money on other players -- I hope this saga ends soon, and with Barca for once not getting what they want.
Sadly as we all know Cesc will go to them in the end. I just want them to stop ****ing about and either stay quiet or make a proper bid (£40-60 mill).
I coming at a time were we should sell him.... Summer after Summer its the same boring Fabregas/Barca rubbish. Preferably send him to Madrid Im sure 45million could get us a couple of decent CBs and a good replacement for Fabregas
Spent a fair bit of the last 2 seasons injured. Not his fault of course. There is a side of me that hopes he goes and ends up on their bench a lot.
That's the problem...he wasn't and isn't. That's just the dumb price Liverpool chose to pay. No one else would have. If I decide to go on eBay and pay £200 for a second hand George Foreman grill doesn't mean anyone else will be stupid enough to do so.
So we either get £30 million now for him and find that there's no ready made replacement or, in fact, a player good enough to buy for that money or we wait 4 years and let him go on a free, assuming he doesn't sign a new contract, and have Rambo and Wilshere mature in the centre. **** the money, it's about the ability of our side.
WHL, yeah can see where youre coming from but we have 5 years to test Barcelonas resolve and before that time im fairly sure certain elements of the barcelona midfield will be past their best, so its interesting but we will not sell him for £30 million, its an insult in todays market and thats not just about any caroll, only reason he went for so much was because he was english
Any price below £35m is an insult. But at over £40m I'd accept he can go. Why try to hold a player who doesn't want to be here?
In 3 years time Xavi and Iniesta will be past their best and Barca will be so desperate for Fabregas that we'll be asking for £80m
