But it is. I noticed since I had a two day hiatus what it's been like. Frankly, it's been a coffee morning, everyone agreeing with everyone, no real debate of substance. One of the reliable guys on here hasn't posted either (DLTW) so it's literally been Beefy dropping stuff here and there. If that's what people want then fine, go that. Everyone moans about Saintsweb, and some of the stuff on there, but at least there's ACTUAL decent debate, snippets and decent humour. This could've been handled so much better, and it will be worse off for it. I'd have a compare between this and Newcastle's board... See how thriving it is because there's far less of a leash round it.
I popped in when i heard some people were making a massive deal out of what seems like a perfectly legitimate and straightforward decision. I said in the past that i have no personal issue with either dan or joe and quite like what they provide to the forum. However if rules have been broken then the fact that they add a lot in quantity or quality doesn't...and shouldn't matter. It seemed pretty universal on here that the mods have always done a good job but that sentiment/belief is completely destroyed as a result of 1 decision rather than taking the mods track record into account.
I agree it's obvious to see it's split the forum in half. Unfortunately I don't really see much of a solution now until they all come back, but it could have so easily been avoided in the first place. Dan and Joe were silly, yes, but it's been a snowball of over reactions since then. This was a great forum, and I hope it continues to be, but that looks less and less likely the longer everyone is away.
That seems convenient - particularly when those in question have no issue with any warning being made public. It's just sad that we've got to this position due to a few fairly obviously personal grievances (rather than a communal grievance). Personally I think the place is much richer when reading the insights of the likes of DTLW, Schad or FLT than discussing TSS and Channons preference of Long-John. Look, I have nothing individually against any of the mods, or any specific poster as it happens, I'm just sad to see the dissolution of something that was interesting, engaging and fun, for the sake of some daft and petty grudges.
If that's the case then those same rules had been broken previously and even since their bans, without punishment.
Thats not mere idle fact thats cold hard speculation right there. Again as i said if the rules have been broken then the users other contributions or social standing shouldn't be taken into account. Thats a system which would instantly pariah some users and heap protection on to others.
I've seen posts from the mods before explaining why some accounts have been banned - I think there was a recent one about a duplicate account - so I'm not sure that's true. Aside from that question, I can see the logic of keeping things private when someone is being given a warning or quiet talking to, but when you ban/suspend an account it's quite obvious and once that information is public I can't see why the ban/suspension couldn't be explained.
It was, repeated breaches of the rules. I'm not a mod so i don't know what their rules are so thats just a guess based on my experience as a mod on another forum years ago.
So I ignore the message I received from a mod previously saying that some of the mods have been looking for an excuse to ban Dan for a while? Okay. Cool. Sorry to have to bring that up, but it wasn't me bringing my integrity into question. I'm sure I'll probably get banned or this message gets deleted.....but there we go.
Well i hope you don't get banned mate. Never my intention to get anyone into hot water or to cause insult. Doesnt that kind of prove the point though that the bans were related to ongoing offenses by the users.
Not really, and I know your intentions are good Tommomo. But I rather think that it proves the point that the bans were 'trigger happy'.
Looking for an excuse to ban someone who constantly offends is rather odd? If it's a constant offender they wouldn't wait, surely?
If the looking for a reason to ban Dan is true then that's me gone. It shows some mods are out to ban people they dislike.
Sorry to butt into your chat, but I don't quite see your logic. A constant offender, who continually bends the rules to near snapping point will eventually have a ban imposed. However, that offender must rack up a few offences before they trip themselves up. We don't ban people on what they might do in the future. They have to do it first.
