Hull City U21's will be looking to build on last Monday’s cup win against West Brom and stop a run of three successive defeats in the league. Tonight’s game will be played at North Ferriby United. Entry is free for Season Card holders, with an admission fee of £4 adults and £2 concessions for non-Season Card holders.
City were the better side , not a bad game, good to see Ter Horst back playing and scoring. Seeing we have lost Dixon, CJM, Aimson, Luer (who looks as if he will be going out on loan) and Townsend the others have step up well.
Have we got anyone that looks capable of making the first team one day? It's disappointing we haven't had one player come through the ranks and make a decent amount of first team appearances.
I thought Dixon could have stepped up but he has gone to York. Out of who played last night Josh Tymon and Greg Olley look the most likely, though Clarke played better than I have seen him for a while, so he might have just had a levelling off period and might kick on. I think it is early days, they have really only been improving the set up in the last 2 years, so hopefully we will see more coming through in a year or two's time.
I won't hold my breath on anyone breaking through any time soon. I don't believe Steve Bruce has any real interest in the academy set up. Those he's allowed to leave this season seem to be proof of that, some talent let go there!
I think it is harsh to say SB doesn't have any interest in it, he has been the one who was instrumental in getting Pennock in and actually getting better facilities and now up to the 2nd tier. He let those players go as they were in their early twenties and needed to start playing league football, and is his opinion not good enough for top Championship or Lower EPL team.
I kind of agree with that, I was particularly surprised to see the lad Dixon(?) allowed to leave for York, however maybe City are playing mind games with these lads, improve if you want to play for City otherwise you'll be shunted out of the club.
Cjm combined with simpson the other day is he out on loan or did we sell him? he already thinks hes a star though.
Think your wide of the mark there. Steve Bruce is the guy who ultimately decides who gets kept on at under 21 level or beyond and who doesn't. He offers the contracts at the end of the day. The trouble is he doesn't really know the kids within Hull Academy system. You may argue, that's not his job, but look how you try Sir Alex Ferguson operated within Man Utds set up, he knew the value of keeping his eyes and ears on the ground!
To York and Blackpool. I've seen Steve Bruce at quite a few Ressies games , so he does see for himself. I imagine he has regular meetings with Pennock, wanting to know who and how they are doing. If Pennock had the next Rooney/Gazza/Stan Bowles in the Academy he would be pestering Brucey. Isnt Clemence a bit of a link too, I've seen him at plenty of Ressies games too.
