Will always remember his performance in the League Cup Final versus Man Utd. Best player on the pitch that day and that was certainly the view of match commentators. Wonderful servant to both the club and his country.
What?!!!!! Yoshi! NO!! I've only just seen this. Not a good way to start my day, but it kind of makes sense. He hasn't played for ages, and Sampdoria is a glamorous club to go and experience. Wish him all the best and really hope he comes back some day to work with the club. ABSOLUTE LEGEND
I am very sad to hear this. Maya has been a great servant to this club and a fantastic ambassador. I never met him knew the brother owner of the Japanese restaurant in Winchester where he was a regular where he was a regular customer and we was the first person to tell me what a good bloke he was. I have heard this said so often since then. I had hoped that he was the find of player who would eventually fulfil a role within the club once he retired from the game. He was a Saint through and through and always gave 100%. Top bloke. Good luck, Yoshi.
Absolute one of the most loyal dedicated and hardworking players we have signed and love him for that. Unfortunately he wasn’t very good which explains his dedication hardworking loyalty. Still love the bloke and wish him every success.
As if this isn’t hard enough, you just know he’s going to send us spiralling through floods of tears with a heartfelt message soon, too...
Next home game we should all sing his song at 3 mins “Oh Maya Yoshida” Maya Yoshida - Saints no3 - LEGEND
...while at the same time congratulating the team on their fine win at Anfield. He was, of course, at the heart of the side the last time we won there in 2017...
Southampton FC are all the poorer for Maya Yoshida leaving. I don't mean just in pure football terms, but in having his solid, encouraging and happy personality around the club. If any player has epitomised a true professional, it's Maya Yoshida. Hopefully he will return after his Italian holiday and a place will be found for him because he is a truly inspirational character and would be perfect working with the academy players and staff. Just being in and around the club he gives Saints a bit more sparkle and 'niceness'. There doesn't seem much sentiment in football these days but we will be a better club for having Maya here, if he wants to stay. If he wants to go back to Japan, the least we should do is to give him one hell of a good send off. Thanks for everything Maya .....
Just said to Mrs Jab "lets have a long weekend in Italy, there's flights to Genoa in March/April about €120". "Oh lovely" she said. https://beautifuliguria.com/genoa-worth-a-visit/ . Fortunately she's a big Saints fan and loves going to matches.
What a lovely man. Really, really hope he gets to come back to St. Mary's for the send-off he deserves for his tireless professionalism and commitment.
Quite amused looking at the pos that the first reply I saw was from Andre Villas-Boas. Not sure how or why they know each other! Nice reply from Jose too.
