Hello all. I've been looking at last season's table http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/DivisionalLeagueTable/0,,10794~20107,00.html and the number of points that was needed to reach the last play off positions was 75 by Forest - to reach that total, we would need to get 12 wins out of our final 17 games. I know that the championship has been much more competitive this year so 75 points will probably be enough for 4th or higher (was enough for 3rd in 07/08) but do you think that it possible? Hand on heart I say no as we have been inconsistent (to put it into the politest terms) and I have all but waved goodbye to Wembley, but I am a dreamer and will keep the faith!
I admire your optomism mate, but we have no chance of winning 12 from 17, god we havn't mangaged back to back wins, let alone a run like that. I think its time to put things into perspective, this season has been a complete and utter disaster, the highlight was pre season, with all the speculation and signings we were making(alot of whom turned out to be complete s***e), coupled with the fact some of our more established players decided to compound the prob by collectively having their worst season all at the same time, King, Wellens(main cullprit), Gallagher, and to an extent Dyer. But as pre season faded away, and we got down to the real business, things just went downhill, we stuttered and spluttered, sometimes flattered to decieve, but never really lived up to all our hopes, let alone the owners expectations, we are in short not good enough, and i fully expect(provided he is given the time)for Nigel to continue to clear out the dead wood in the summer, most of whom are mentioned above. ROLL ON NEXT PRE SEASON.................
I look at it a different way. We are 8 points off the play offs. We have 17 games to make that up and stay ahead of them.
I think Pearson needs to have a summer with these players get rid off the ones not playing build a proper team. This year i think it maybe too late but who knows maybe next, just hope NP is given that time
As proud fox states, only 8 points away from the play offs so I would not consider that impossible, far from it but the key is consistency over the remainder of the season. There is normally 1 team that puts a long run together in the 2nd half of the season to hoist them in to contention, Reading did it last year and another team that totally blows it and goes in to free-fall from the play offs (my money would be on Middlesbrough). Lets go back to the consistency thing......Leicester so far have not shown any, at any stage of this season unless you are talking consistently inconsistent. I don't think the Foxes will do it, same with the 3 teams just above you (Derby, Burnley, Brighton) and get the feeling this season the top 9 as the table stands today will be in the top nine at the end of the season. In what order I would not dare say just yet. Having said all that, get 3 consecutive wins under your belt and it could all change, which is what makes the Championship so fascinating season after season.
The season is over as far as I am concerned. Yes of course it's still possible, but take in to account we haven't won 2 league games in a row for 12 months, is nothing short of disgraceful. Roll on next season.
after sven was sacked ,for me the writing was on the wall for this season, changing managers half way through the season never works. everything has conspired against us this year. im not going to live in denial..we might do better in the remaining games but I really can't see any type of challenge now. The players need to take a long hard look at themselves, they have been given everything by the club and have layed an egg . Its about time they took responsibility for what they dish out, what realistic excuses do they have? below halfway in this league with all the resources we have is a shameful disgrace.
My optimism is blind optimism - I know in my head that we have no real chance based upon our past and present form but I will cling onto that hope with my heart like the stupid fanboy that I am. I'm not so stupid that I wrote that we can win our next 17 and become champions - not without a few drinks in me at least
I'd like to see who NP brings in over the summer with a blank cheque book, i doubt he will get anywhere near the supposed £10-12m spent by Sven, plus we don't need to shore up too many positions now imo.
Time for a dose of realism - I've given up on winning the league - we should now resign ourselves to wining the FA Cup .. and just sneaking into the playoffs and then up - sorry I can't be more bullish but some of you need to wake up and smell the coffee ...
Dirkster - whilst my post was very much tongue in cheek it is worth remembering that we do have an FA cup tie coming up that, if successful, could see us in the quarter finals - I'm not undersetimating Norwich but there may be a temptation for Lambert to give some of his squad players a run out and its not that long ago that MK Dons went there and got a tremendous result in the Carling Cup - either way it should be a good day out and we should have the full squad available at that point (Delfonouso aside)
It's still possible, but I still think its down to our midfield performing, we have no problems in goal, in defence or up front (all be it we are short of players up front) but we don't have a capable middle. Drinkwater may improve our middle, Marshall is untested, Danns, not so sure, Gally, Dyer, Wellens and king are just not doing it this season so I'm at a loss other than loaning some quality and pushing up Sol.
Don't get all your doom and gloom .. 8 points is nothing and LcFc have as good a chance as anyone making the play offs especially in this league where anyone can beat anyone. Besides iv got money on that the play off final will be Hull City v LcFc ...
NP needs to do a MO´N in the 1995/96 season. We made the PO´s then by a nats cock so it is possible, BUT I can´t help thinking we will be in the NPOWER again next season, when after a summers transfers in & out, a pre-season tour & more getting together we will, imo, be well up for it & will reach our goal. Looking at most teams in the NPOWER plus those that will more than likely go down, I´m thinking next season will be our season. It will be NP´s first full season in charge (again) so he will be under abit of pressure BUT I just have a feeling ´this season no, next season yes`. I HOPE
Why was this Brighton match so important that we've all just given up? I don't get it. If anyone thought we were going to go unbeaten for the rest of the season, they were in denial. We've just made some impressive new signings that need time to settle in, and hopefully we can go on a late run like we did under O'Neill. You cannot predict how the rest of the season will go by looking at past results. If football was that predictable, we wouldn't watch it. And besides, if we were going to lose, I'd prefer it when it was 8 v 10 -let's see a side beat us when it's 11 v 11.
