On ability alone, I'd have picked Wes Brown and Mensah, all day long. They hardly played more than a few games before an injury kicked in, though. I really rated Emerson Thome, I thought he was as solid as a rock. Jody Craddock is probably more of a heart selection, it was impossible not to like him. He was always consistent but obviously didn't have world class talent like some of the others. He spent quite a while in our team too. Danny Collins after a shaky start turned into a very good and very underrated centre back. I was close to picking him. Evans stood out on his first loan with us but that was in the Championship and that stopped me selecting him. Kone made up the numbers on the selections.
Cheers 83, Am a Hetton lad up in Scotland now so hardly get to the games anymore with kids + work etc. Probably the longer time that goes on the better my nostalgia filter views things. Gareth Hall will be like Messi and Kante rolled into one if it keeps going like this haha! Enjoy reading your posts mate although that's true of a lot on here. Some very knowledgeable and funny guys. Cheers and I'll try and chip in more when time allows, love this thread and the similar ones
Gone for Mensah and Brown, though they'd obviously spend more time in the treatment room together than on the pitch. They were the most talented defenders that I've seen play for us.
Gareth Hall - what a legend. He only played twice for us since we moved to the SOL. I'm not sure if any of those appearances were at home, otherwise he would have walked away with today's vote Nice post, mate. I hope you can show up more but your family comes first and if it's easier for you to just look in from time to time, then crack on. I don't cry about members not posting, you do what's best for you. Have a cracking weekend
