by David McIntyre Striker Rob Hulse is the surprise inclusion in the 25-man squad submitted by QPR to the Premier League this afternoon. Once again there is no place for Hogan Ephraim who, as expected, has been made available to other clubs. On-loan Manchester United forward Federico Macheda does not need to be listed in the squad because he is under 21. Full squad: 1 Kenny 2 Traore 3 Hill 4 Derry 5 Hall 6 Taarabt 7 Zamora 8 Hulse 9 Campbell 10 Bothroyd 11 Diakite 12 Mackie 13 Gabbidon 14 Buzsaky 15 Taiwo 16 Onuoha 17 Barton 18 Young 19 Smith 20 Helguson 21 Cerny 22 Murphy 23 Wright-Phillips 24 Ferdinand 25 Cisse
Not sure about Hulse instead of Ephraim. We've got six strikers on our books now and that's not even mentioning Macheda. However Hulse was undoubtedly a quality striker only a season and a bit ago. If he finds some form and more importantly confidence we could have another striker back from the dead ala Heidar Helguson. Gutted for Ephraim. He's a good lad and can defend which is why I thought he'd be useful if we're holding out. Fresh legs, quite quick and excellent at teaming up with the full back.
Not surprised about that, Hogan came on against Villa and I didnt even hear his name once, I totally forgot he was playing. I dont think Hulse will be used other than the last 15 mins when we will launch it.
Bothroyd does score occasionally eg against Man City as well as holding up the ball well (which admittedly Hulse does) Campbell's been ill or injured for most of the time we've had him - but scored in one of his first games, at Wolves I agree Hulse is probably better than Macheda
I called that Hulse should be included! Seriously though, imo he has shown more than Bothroyd, Campbell and Macheda have done in just the Wigan game alone really. Deserves his chance - Hughes clearly likes him. Lets face it, he cant do any worse than the others. But he probably wont play much seeing as we now have Cisse and Zamora aswell. So changes are; Out: Bradley Orr - Sold Matthew Connolly - Loaned out Bruno Perone - Replaced Jason Puncheon - Loan ended Kieron Dyer - Injured Alejandro Faurlin - Injured In: Nedum Onuoha Taye Taiwo Djibril Cisse Bobby Zamora Samba Diakite Rob Hulse
I think hogan should of been inc we dont need another striker but we do need some width hogan does play as a winger dont forget, nobody else seems worried about our width have a look at the squad where is the width mackie, smith and swp all of which have been poor this season.i really wish MH went for hoilett would of made a huge difference a sneaky try for Hleb would be good he is on a free now
I dont see Ephraim would do a better job than the wingers we currently have. He is far too lightweight and even in the NPC didnt create/play much. We have alot of POSSIBLE options on the wing - SWP, Mackie, Smith, Taarabt, Buzsaky, Traore. When on form all can be good enough.
On another thread I posted the exact same squad the other day not that it was too difficult and said it would be a toss up between Hulse & Hogan
Looking at those coming in compared to those who went out, there's an INSANE increase in quality (Considering that Ali is injured he'll be like having a new signing in the summer).
Agree, barring Faurlin, it is a massive improvement - and I would be happy to play any of our 25 man squad now. Rather than before it was a case of just filling the numbers. I do wonder if Ali was still fit, would be have signed Diakite? I reckon we still would - so who would miss out for Ali? Derry? Hulse?
I dont get the moaning about hulse? He's a quality player Signed when still injured, he was rushed back too early whilst clearly not match fit then lumped into a 4-5-1 system that just doesn't suit his style of play. With cisse Zamora and hh to play off he'll be coming off the bench and is a great ball holding player with 20 mins to go He'll come good
Spot on, Hulse wasnt fit last year at all really. This year he looks alot fitter and gets around the pitch much easier than before. On the evidence of the Wigan game he could be an able sub for Helguson.
People moaning about Hulse were probably people booing HH before he was loaned to Watford, the same HH who has a goal every other game in the PL. Both were playing injured and while I dont expect Hulse to score that much, Im sure he can do a job for us, something Ephraim cannot do.
Think you're confusing the Wigan game with Chelsea. Hulse was only involved as a sub against the scum.
Really tough call but someone has to be 26 and I guess that's Hogan. That said HE is a top player and a top bloke. No doubt Championship or top L1 side will benefit from Hogie as a loan signing. At least his CV says played in the Premier League
Genuinely, I hope you're right about him coming good, WB. Not convinced, but sure, give the guy a chance...
