A dose of realism is required- although thankfully not from anyone on here. Our squad isn’t big enough or strong enough this season for anything other than a “survival” finish. It’s brilliant that 99% of our fans accept this - there is barely a grumble on social media today, despite the bitter pill of that last ditch defeat last night. On Saturday we are going to a Premier League ground to face a Premier league squad that has parachute money. This time last season we were visiting Accrington Stanley, who have a stadium that makes Welling look like the Nou Camp. We could do with @lardiman providing the stats, but I believe that very few teams get relegated with 52 points in the Championship...and that should now be our sole aim.
This division is tighter than the pockets of @Royston Vasey in a boozer. Should we lose our next two games, which could easily happen, we would go into the spanners game desperate for a result to avoid a mini slump.
Blackburn Rovers were relegated with 51 points in season 2016-17 Leicester City went down with 52 points in season 2007-08 Peterborough United were relegated with 54 points in season 2012-13 But in most other recent seasons about 47 or 48 points has been enough for safety
We have a very credible 22 points, and we are nicking them against tough sides when we are under strength. Bonne continues to impress. 5 goals now ... @DickPlumb can stop auditioning for the Grinch ...and another tidy headed finish from Macca today. Conor, Josh & Pratley once again excelled, and must be one of the best midfielder combos in the Championship. Solly & Sarr were both not great defensively today. My real bugbear is Aneke, who’s poor touch led directly to West Brom’s second goal, and who is Leaburn-esque in his clumsiness.
Very much a great day for us. Bonne is on his way to one of those seasons the likes of Makeniok could only dream of. 52 points would be a minimum for me. I'm sure we'll have a few more nights like Bristol. But also a few days like Derby. Today was great. The team and management are too. It's a good time to be an Addick.
The bookies made us red-hot favourites to go straight back down, did they not? And we had by far the lowest valued squad. No wonder teams like West Brom don't like it up 'em.
The West Brom fans on the train after the game were moaning about “dirty Lee Bowyer teams” ....fortunately The Sheriff was on hand to put them right
I went back on the New St to Euston route - the trouble seemed to involve fans who caught the Snow Hill to Marylebone train. Judging by the videos, the police thought they were still at the Miner’s strike.
Whatever the rights or wrongs, plod at football think they have licence to treat football supporters how they like.
Does anyone know the terms of Conor Gallagher’s loan deal with us ? There are a few rumours flying around on social media that Lampard wants to recall him to Chelsea in January, after his impressive performance for the England Under 21s.
From memory, there is a recall clause … but perhaps Lampard will feel guilty and loan us another youngster.
Nobody would be a patch on Conor, who will be our POTY if he stays the season. Losing both Cullen & Gallagher back to their home clubs in January would be a calamity.
Gallagher is good, but not ready for Chelsea's first team. I'm confident we have him all season. Better for him too.
Most of Chelsea's young stars will be out of the team if they get their transfer ban lifted. Then we might be allowed to keep Gallagher for the season.
