... is anyone suddenly a little more interested in beating Sheff Utd? I'm going but was hoping to see some new/fringe players, meet up for a few pints and see us knocked out in a 5-4 thriller. But after Spurs, Portsmouth and Stoke were knocked out it seems a little more appealing, A 4th round home tie against Colchester or Crawley could see us through to the point whereby it gets interesting. Or would it just be an unwelcome distraction from our glorious march to the playoffs?
Unwelcome distraction for me. Best case scenario, we get an incredibly lucky draw all the way to the final and then get pumped 10-0 off City. There's no way we're winning the whole thing so it's ultimately pointless. Nobody remembers runners up.
When the draw was made I thought they might be more interested in concentrating on surviving in the Prem and put a weakened team out. But after their win at Everton I think they will be thinking they can probably handle the Prem anyway so will give this Cup a real good go. It’s going to be tough for us but hey, knowing Sunderland we will sneak a 1-0 win. Gooch to score !
True and it's not like we're going to need the cash. Last season I was all for us competing in cup competitions but the margin we didn't get promoted by was so narrow that if we hadn't had any extended cup runs we'd probably have gone up. Assuming the takeover goes through this isn't the season to be worrying about anything other than the league. Plenty of time for the cups.
Yeah, now I've slept on it I totally agree. I was just trying to justify getting the train up there, walking through the rain to a half empty stadium and trudging back home having watched Grigg miss another sitter
Think we are going to see another rake of changes which further disrupts the ability for players to try and form all important partnerships. Hopefully the lads put in a good show and take the win but it feels at the minute it is a bit throw the squad names at the wall and see which 11 stick. Frustrating
I'd be happy to get to the next round and hopefully a home draw. I went to Burnley expecting a defeat, but it turned out to be a good enjoyable night. Would have took my boy to this one but didn't want to upset the Mrs with it being a school night, and he would be gutted if I had went without him . Hopefully the team will put in a decent performance (we are due one) and hope theres none of our fans bickering amongst each other like there was down Bolton.
no chance we can win it so might as well get beat tonight and concentrate on trying to get out this tin pot league we're in
City & Liverpool still in. I’d love a cup run if we could carry it but we can’t be ****ing about getting out of the league. If we had a run prefer it in the FA Cup, but the reality is for this season I’d gladly **** them all off, we’ve not got the players to rotate and the ones we have are only barely adequate. As always of course, if we win I’ll be delighted
It’s a WIN for me if only to allow fringe players to continue to get match fit & hopefully push the regulars.
Man c again i reckon or Liverpool, even the under 21's are winning in the efl ? cup, would be great to get crawley or Colchester but i think this is as far as we go tonight, that draw favoured the big 6 mind.
