What's almost like the FA put the women’s game back by banning it from professional stadiums for 50 years.??? Why do you think I am suggesting we shouldn't celebrate all achievements ?
What are we discussing this evening? I just had a half hour kip and I seem to have lost the thread...
I am an absolute advocate for sexual equality, women's rights and especially so in sport. However I do feel strongly that broadcasters/ reporters should differentiate between male and female sport. It pisses me off when it's reported xx has just scored the highest ever score in an Ashes series, and it turns out to be women's cricket. That (men's) Ashes series is 140 years old.
Is Kasper better than his dad? VAR Are women equal to men in sport? why is Callum Elder still a God in Leicester? Could we all have chipped in a few quid to make that deal happen when we were better than Leicester? Since 2015, how can we all suddenly spell Leicester properly? You've missed nowt
If you were really interested it's hardly brain surgery to find out. Most would already be aware of the gender of the subject as the context would be obvious.
I am obsessed with sport, so can pick out the context. My wife has no interest but for example has asked why has Chelsea's manager been sacked (after seeing a headline). Why shouldn't there be more context to a headline? It's nothing sexist whatsoever.
Obviously your wife is smart as she asked someone with some knowledge of the subject. Her curiosity was satisfied. What has sexism to do with it? Do you read articles or listen to reports that confuse you about the subject. Reading on, mainly for less than a sentence, should pinpoint the context. Most headlines, subject sections would highlight the context (e.g. Women's football, Men's downhill skiing). If not, the context is pretty damned obvious for people interested in (let's say aware of...) a subject. They were prompted by the heading /journal section already.
Not so on the BBC text service, they'll often headline 'so and so sign new player' and when you click on the page find it's the women's team they're reporting on. Poor in my opinion.
Terrible waste of a nanosecond then Never used text service myself. Is it subject focused by any chance, or does everything get funnelled to a user?
I have fewer nanoseconds left than many, but it's just one of the little things in life that shouldn't matter a jot, but still mildly irritate me, much like when George Aligiah says 'and now for the news where you are' I can watch Look North anywhere in the bleedin' world! Oh, and I've always used the text service, and will do so until they turn it off, as the gits have threatened to do.
You've explained my gripe far better than I tried to. We are talking about Equality and Diversity, so why cant we recognise diversity?
Just as an aside, can you remember her dad, Terry Yorath? I'm thinking it was a sad ending so I'm not rushing in.
